suitable way of keeping my battery until I am out of the car

I love having a battery alternative for my TYT MD-UV390 plus. The issue I have with this item: It’s really hard to get it to mount the radio (not a one hand operation). The tabs on the radio are recessed more than the eliminator so you kinda have to jamb it into the radio and secure it with the locking mechanism. Once attached it works great.

Works great in my vehicle and allows me to utilize my handheld radio much better in my vehicle on longer trips without having to worry about charging the radios battery. Great buy and well worth the investment to allow much more convenience.

This power eliminator thing... had great promise. I used these a lot over the years. This one however ran for a day then died. Actually it kind of winds down like a spring. It works for about 10 minutes then the voltage drops off and the radio shuts down. For the minuscule price, it's not worth my time to send it back! But if I'd known it belonged in the garbage I wouldn't have wasted my time to order it! Hopefully, this is an isolated case - be warned or keep your fingers crossed.

I purchased this so my wife and I could talk to each other on our move from Colorado to Tennessee. She was using my TYT MD-UV390 while I used my TYT TH9800. We probably made it about 2/3 of the way before she called me on her phone and said the radio wasn't working. Turns out picking it up to talk into was enough to pull the cord loose so it wasn't getting power anymore. Luckily, the battery had enough charge to last the rest of the way. I returned the battery eliminator right away. Because it worked so well up to that point, I ordered another one. But before I use this one, I'll going to super glue the cord so it won't pull out. Would be five stars if the cord didn't pull out.
