Negura Bunget is an award-winning Transilvanian black metal band that twists the genre sideways, presenting an atmospheric sound that incorporates both progressive underground metal and traditional Romanian music. Negura Bunget's new album, "ZI" (English for 'Day' or 'Say') is the second part of the group's ambitious "Transilvanian Trilogy", released on the heels of 2015's celebrated album, "TAU" (English for 'Your' or 'Thy'), a record accurately hailed as 'earthshaking' as it focused on unique native, natural landscapes and the mystique, legends, lore and meanings behind them. Hoppla, das ging aber knapp daneben!
Hatte "Tau" noch eine klare Richtung zwischen älteren (BM) und neueren (Ambient-Folk) Veröffentlichungen und man hatte als langjähiger Fan noch eine Ahnung, wo es hingehen soll, so fehlt diese Tendenz bei diesem mittleren Werk der Transsilvanischen Trilogie meines Erachtens völlig. Das ganze wirkt wie ein Schnellschuss, der eher nach hinten losgeht. Allein "Stanciu gruiul" macht beim Mitsingen (ja, richtig gehört) Spaß und wenigstens positive Energie. Ansonsten bleibe ich enttäuscht, zum ersten Mal nach der Neuausrichtung mit "Vîrstele Pamîntului". Schaun mer mal, was da noch kommt.

Perfekte Fusion zwischen Ambient und Metal
Eines ist klar: "OM" kann bei diesen Underground-Genies nicht mehr länger als Benchmark hinhalten. Aber Sounds a la Stille Volk und deren Ambient-Tochter LaBreiche in Kombination mit furiosem Black/Pagan Metal schaffen es allemal. Der Hörer weiß nie, wohin die Reise endet-und das ist auch gut so. Einzig voraussehbar ist der folkoristische Track "Stanciu Gruiul", eine Heiducken-Ballade a la Transsylvania Phoenix (stilistisch die Vorväter von Negura Bunget).Fazit: fünf Punkte für ein einzigartiges Ambient/Metal-Ereignis!
