Potter-tastic
Brought this as a gift for my girlfriend who is a bit of a potter fan. Comes in a nice presentation box with parchment style instructions. The wand itself is plastic/resin. I can't help feeling that a nice touch would have been to make the jewel in the battery end light up but never mind.As for the magic:It is not plug and play straight from the box and does take a little learning to programme and use but overall this just adds to the enjoyment. Now if I can just get it to work on my girlfriend in the bedroom ^^ ..........................

Kymera Magic Wand
The 'wand' arrived promptly, as if by magic - a good sign as it was ordered very late and was required as 'something different' for a grandaughter's birthday.Grandaughter, who is an ardent Harry Potter fan has had a marvellous time organising the TV programmes and has become very slick at changing channels. Her elder brother is not amused, but everybody else is, until their favourite programme disappears off the screen at the flick of a wand!Thoroughly recommended for young adolescents who wish to wind up both their siblings. Great as a present from grandparents as they only hear about the funny bits and don't have to observe the battles at first hand. I don't know how long the wand will last. It was recommended to me by my daughter who did some online research and said the specs for this wand were better than most. As far as I am concerned the Kymera MWRC has most definitely given value for money.

Expensive mistake.
I bought this for my ex-husband as a christmas present as he is a bit of a Harry Potter fan. I later learned that despite the fact that he is one of the most technical people I know and has worked in the IT and communications industries for decades, he couldn't get this "magic wand" to communicate with his TV. I was disappointed as it really was quite an expensive gadget and it ended up looking like I'd bought him some cheap tat which was never going to work. I'm giving it two stars only because the concept is great and good fun, even if the execution is difficult or non-existant.

absolutely brilliant gadget
I am one of those people who usually isn't that bothered about new tech for the most part but occasionally I see some new gadget that makes me thing "I MUST have that" and this is one of those gadgets.I am a fan of harry potter but not so much that I'll dress up as dumbledore and hang around outside book shops. I think everyone would love the ability to just flick a wand and get a result and this wonderful bit of kit allows you to do just that. As soon as you get your head around the way it works and memorise the different commands (which doesn't take long), you will feel giddy with that childish excitement the first time a command works.Right, on to the technical stuff. The wand works by copying the infra red code from other remote controls, therefore you can use the wand to control pretty much anything that already uses a remote control (and assuming you have the original remote). The wand "learns" these codes in a very magical way, keeping with the theme. You have to point the wand at the remote and press the button you want to assign that function to a certain gesture of the wand. Just doing this is rather cool in itself. In general the commands are fairly easy to get to grips with although you do have to get used to the right amount of pressure to use on the tapping motions. Now, if I could give this product a 4.5 stars I would. There are only a few niggles and they are fairly minor:1. It is expensive, especially since the inventors were rumbled on dragon's den saying that it only costs £10 to make2. There aren't enough pre set gestures. There are 13 and it may just be my setup at home but I used all of these for just my TV and my sky box. It would have been nice to be able to control the DVD player too and have everything in one device but as it stands I have managed to assign all of the regularly used functions from 2 remotes into the wand so no need for lots of different remotes3. The range of gestures is fairly limited (see the product description). The inventors did not make use of twirling actions and a variety of swishes, this would have added to the number of commands you could assign to the wand4. The wand can be a bit twitchy if you're not careful i.e. you may just be putting the wand down and if you're not careful or if you jerk it too much, you may inadvertantly execute a command but this just takes getting used to to avoidThat's about it really! The appeal of this product is definitely in the fun area and it has most certainly delivered in this promise. One word of warning though, if you have kids, impress upon them that this isn't a toy. It looks like one but it doesn't feel like one. Just picking it up you can tell it is a serious piece of tech and I wouldn't be confident that it would survive being thrown around the room too much!Use this wand and you can make the simple act of turning on your tv make you feel like a kid again, grinning in wonder. Go on, buy it, you know you want to.

As close to being a wizard as muggley possible
So much fun to use. The gestures can be a bit difficult to get a hang of but definitely possible. The instructions are easy to figure out and you just need to be patient with counting the pulses to be sure which gesture you're programming. It works like a dream when you can do exactly what you want to do but some gestures can get accidentally performed, making you do something you didn't want to do. Also it can be difficult to remember the less commonly used programmed gestures. Perhaps it might be worth writing down what you've programmed next to each gesture on the instructions if you struggle remembering all 13 gestures.I had a bit of an issue with my first wand where it would pulse continuously. I emailed the company and they responded promptly and sent me a replacement wand within a few days. All in all, I love my wand!Ps: "It's leviOsa not leviosA"

It's A Kind of Magic
The functionality of the wand like the rest of these prop remotes is still a bit slow, however this allows me to get involved in changing the channel, I've also used this wand as a cosplay prop & used it's functions to my ability, it's crafted brilliantly & on display looks like a wand used from the film's, as a prop it's a 10, usability is a 9.5 a bit sluggish but has greatly improved overtime.
