Instant Lessons for Supply Teachers 5-7 Paperback – 9 Oct. 2009

I have to say, supply teachers, be secretive about this book (and the accompanying series) because there is nothing about this book that a non-supply teacher would not want. By this, I mean that a number of these lessons serve as an introductory stimulus that can be used to gauge an understanding of what your pupils already know and where they need to be in future. For me, this group of books could be named, "what you want to find out about the children" before you go into the nuts and bolts of where children need to be by the end of the unit you are about to deliver.And on that recommendation, all I can say as a teacher who is not supply (though I maybe soon) but was bereft of ideas, you should by this book.However, to warn you, you may become quickly besieged by offers of work on a permanent basis. Having said that, maybe, actually, you shouldn't buy this book. Stay away. One star.

As an NQT, the most nerve racking aspect of supply for me is the thought of turning up to a class of thirty expectant kids only to find that the teacher has left no work. Rather than losing more sleep worrying about it I decided to find a resource that could act as an emergency back-up plan and this book proved to be perfect. It provides easy to follow plans and resources, mainly focusing on maths and literacy ( there is a lesson plan for each of the other subjects as well). I can now go into school knowing that if I am confronted with my nightmare situation I can use this as a starting point and work from there.

A really useful resource - the only caveat being that there are a limited number of such as these available and you may find yourself using an idea from this book that someone used the day or week before. If you are able to think on your feet then this is an essential part of your supply kit.

Okay. Feel better for having it in supply bag although haven't needed to use it yet. Would worry that previous supply might have had/used one but handy to have in an emergency.

I now have the set of 3 'Instant Lessons' books, covering the Primary age range. The books have comprehensive lesson plans with, in many cases, differentiated activities. The CD is an invaluable part of this book, but the book can be used without the CD. These books would be a fantastic resource for a supply teacher, or indeed for a classroom teacher in search of a little inspiration! I have ordered all 3 books from CC Books- they delivered promptly, and the books were in perfect condition, too.

This is fantastic. It has complete lesson plans, with learning objectives, that are really easy to follow. All worksheets are simple and clear for the kids and the CD Rom has differentiated worksheets and PowerPoints for each lesson. Really takes the pressure of having to think and prepare one off lessons which still providing quality learning and skills development. I can't recommend this book enough for supply or full time teachers.
