Q: What are the benefits of the classic (wood holder) vs the all glass carafe with handle?

After careful consideration, I decided to purchase the all glass carafe because, unlike the wood collar version, the all glass comes with a handle. The wood collar model looks very cool, however, I was worried that I would not be able to grasp it firmly enough and heat from the carafe might makes its way through the wood, and I would end up burning myself and/or dropping the carafe. With the glass handle, it's easy to pour the coffee - no heat transfer. Your best bet, is to find a store in your area where you can actually hold both models and take them for a test run. Good luck! And I love, love, love my Chemex!

No, not at all. If you want just one cup then make just one. The Chemex is just a vessel. The brewing happens in the filter. So allow enough grounds for however much you want to make and enjoy!

Q: About how many cups (standard cups of coffee) of coffee are you getting with this 10 cup chemex?

I can confirm what Stephen says. You'll basically have to do the math, 10 cups at 5 oz per cup is 50 oz. If you have standard 8-10 oz coffee cups then you get 5-6 completely full cups. With space left in the cups instead of being filled to the brim it's more like 6-8 depending on your cup size.Jeff does make a good point though. Filing this all the way means you probably have a lot of grounds. To totally fill this at the strength they list (super strong) you have to pour really slowly to avoid overflowing the top portion, or have to do it with two smaller sets of grounds. For reasonably strong coffee I don't do quite as much of the grounds per cup as they specify, but it does take quite a while to get all the water through all the grounds to fill the carafe.

I have that exact model and the solid glass one as well. Neither came with a lid. Hope that helped.
