Q: Are these sharp? I want to use them to cut bunched up yarn for making pom poms

They are sharp enough to easily cut through thread. That's their main purpose so for anything more it is probably best to get scissors/shears; even cheap ones. You would have to nip away at a bunch of yarn for awhile with these as they're not designed to do more than trim threads and they don't open any wider than they appear to in the photo.

Q: do you get two of these ? or do they mean one but with a lid making it two pieces

This is for 2 x cutters and 2 lids. Would highly recommend. The caps make them very safe no more pricking finger whilst search for them in my knitting bag.

Q: Are they suitable for left handed use

Not sue but they’re so cheap that it would be wor the buying them & trying.
