Great album... not easy to find on CD
GTR... from the supergroup era of big name musicians with past fame with other bands, Steve Hackett and Steve Howe are on the line up.Not easy to find on cd anywhere so if you want it and find it buy when you get the chance to because it will stay scarce until it gets re-released, if it ever does... but beware of rip-off sellers trying to charge £80 to £120 for pirate cd's! do not pay any more than £15 for a 1 disc cd title.

Back to the 80's
I'm a huge fan of both and it was nice to listen to this again after so many years. It's a wonderful collaboration between the two, and with this release from Esoteric comes the original album plus a few extra tracks, as well as a live CD from LA, all remastered to give a comprehensive package of a sadly short lived project. The music still stands the test of time but despite the remastering, the original production is lacking somewhat compared to what we might expect today. Recorded at the Townhouse studios, and yet at times it sounds like it was recorded in an aircraft hanger. Maybe that's a bit unfair but perhaps that just shows how far the production & engineering process has come in the digital age. That aside, this is a great reminder of some top notch 80's stuff from Hackett/Howe.

An “of its time” one-off curiosity.
Another vinyl replacement job. Had this the first time out around 30 years ago. Forgotten about then interest revived on discovering this re-master/reissue. Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. Two of the finest guitarists of their generation and the whole prog rock scene combined here. It should have been a dream. It doesn’t quite hit the mark – perhaps they were trying too hard for GTR not to be a hybrid Yes and genesis with a sprinkle of Asia.Today is sounds a little dated and bit too "nice". No real edge to it. Cannot fault the musicianship and Max Bacon has a huge voice full of power and range. But bar the occasional mazy solo or crisp power chord it’s a bit too slick for its own good. It’s a sort of mainly AOR with a bit of a proggy undertone I’d say. Take When the Heart Rules the Mind for example. Massive hit single, huge hook, catchy as a cold. Good start. Here I Wait is a strong rocker then it starts to tail off a bit for me.I don’t have a downer on GTR – a good listen and worthy enough though nothing spectacular when you think about the line-up involved. The live CD does step it up.Overall: an interesting enough one-off that this reviewer cannot help but feel could have delivered so much more had H and H allowed themselves to really let rip.

An Unknown Gem!
This band did not last long and subsequently is not very well known. I could not pass up hearing Steve Howe and Steve Hackett playing together in the same band. I was amazed at how well they put this little known band together and teamed up to play some great songs. The package arrived quickly and in great shape.
