Classic Thermometer

The first order arrived broken thanks to Royal Mail but the seller quickly replaced it and I'm very pleased with the product. It works very well and is easy to use. I did think twice about buying it as there were so many people who wrote that they could not shake the fluid down. 1. There's a plastic holder supplied that helps to do this and 2. you have to read the thermometer holding it straight and not tilted away as in doing so this shows a blue line that is not the temperature reading. Just takes four minutes to take a temperature when held under the tongue . No batteries to worry about running out.

I bought this because traditional thermometers are preferred but I didnt want the mercury version, so this seemed the right choice. First impressions are that it is well made, but the method of resetting the reading is a real pain. You have to put it in a special container and then flick or shake it very hard. This will cause the mercury-replacement metal to go back down to into the reservoir at the bottom of the thermometer. It also takes a while to show the correct temperature, at least 10 mins for me. The line is also difficult to see unless you hold the thermometer in the right angle. However, the positives are that it doesnt need batteries, it is more accurate than electronic versions and is not dangerous if shattered. One more thing, if you think the outer glass has a scratch on it next to one of the numbers, it is intentional, perhaps to help you see the temperature, it is not a defect.

I'd read the other reviews about this product but wondered if perhaps those who'd bought it were younger than me and perhaps weren't familiar with the way an old mercury thermometer worked - in as much as you have to keep it in your mouth several minutes to make it function, whereas with the newer digital ones, they're almost instant. However, I was wrong. This product is a joke, it's a con. DO NOT BUY IT. I finally got the quasi-mercury to move but hardly at all - I had it in my mouth over SIX minutes in the end in order to TRY to make it work but it just doesn't. Apparently I am dead (according to this thermometer!!) There is NO COMPARISON between THIS nonsense and the old mercury thermometer which never failed me once. So do not be fooled. I won't ask for a refund as I'd have to send it back and I just can't be bothered, it will just go in the bin - and I suppose the company selling it rely on the fact that it's so cheap that very few people will bother to send it back but seriously, seriously... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It doesn't work. On top of all of the above, it's HUGE. By comparison to the old mercury thermometer (which, after all, it pretends to mimic), which was a tubular shape and fitted very easily and comfortably into one's mouth - this has a large oval/rectangle shaped barrel which is both uncomfortable and almost makes you gag. DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. PRODUCT!!!

very good, it doesn't require batteries, so it will always work. it will not let you down when you need it the most on a very cold winter night when you have fever and want to measure your temperature to see how bad it is... i had a very good one which works on batteries, but when i got it out to measure my wife's temperature at night, i realized the damn batteries were dead... so it went right into the rubbish bin, can't rely on it anymore...then decided to buy this one. the only downside is that it takes about 5 minutes to measure the correct temperature... but if you are ill and in bead then you have a lot of time anyway.... good luck.

Excellent quality

This was an excellent thermometer for the week I had it. Then silly old me whacked it on my desk and shattered the whole thing, splattering silver liquid all over the room. Argh! Glad it’s non toxic but it did make a mess which was VERY difficult to clean up. Every time I cleaned it up it would reappear after a few hours. Had to repeat cleaning of my whole room about 5-6 times. It’s easy to use without the need for batteries and takes an accurate reading, although you do need to be patient as it takes a few minutes (3-4 mins is best). It’s handy that it comes with the plastic shaking tool as I found it hard to shake the liquid down by hand without hurting my wrist. I’ve opted for the Geratherm digital as I don’t want to break another one. The digital is just as good without the hassle of shaking it or breaking it! Will just have to replace the battery eventually, but that’s a fine compromise.

This is still the most reliable way to take your loved ones' temperatures! Having researched 30+ digital options that takes the temperature from the forehead or the ear, my conclusion was that I cannot trust any of them! They all seemed to be sold by different companies when in reality they all shared the same manufacturer in China! And all of the higher reviewed ones had shady reviews by non-Amazon-verified customers. The true reviews all seemed to say that the digital ones are widely inaccurate. All of the negative reviews associated with this product has nothing to do with its accuracy. Rather, it has to do with the customers not being able to reset the thermometer. I never had a problem with resetting it, and you probably won't either. This product simply works!

das gute, alte Fieberthermometer. Funktioniert tadellos, nur das herunter-schütteln ist etwas mühsam. Das könnte für so manchen etwas schwer sein.

Excelente termómetro para tener en casa. El de toda la vida. Lógicamente le lleva más tiempo marcar la temperatura que a uno digital pero merece la pena por su precisión. En 5 minutos se consigue la temperatura exacta. Para ponerlo a cero después de su uso, es necesario agitar enérgicamente la mano. Yo utilizo un truco que leí por las opiniones de otros compradores y que resulta realmente eficaz. Con el termómetro dentro de su caja, se mete dentro de un calcetín, con el depósito del galio hacia abajo, y se le da vueltas. La fuerza centrífuga se encarga del desplazar el galio sin tener que ejercer apenas ningún esfuerzo físico. La única pega es que al ser de cristal es mejor tenerlo alejado del alcance de los niños.

Bulky in thickness. Very slow & probably inaccurate response. Very hard to reset. Extremely expensive considering product physique and performance. Wanted to return but unfortunately had thrown away the packing.
