The Courtney's battle from the shores of Africa to the Caribbean and revolutionary America
A smashing action adventure from the battling Courtney family set in the time of the American revolution. Dastardly French, scheming merchants, battles on land and sea what more can you ask for.I always am wary of co authored books when writers seemingly become a brand but fear not this tale is in good hands and was perfect for this sunny Easter sitting in the garden with a glass of wine instead of doing it! Enjoyable escapism.

One of the best
Although Wilbur Smith is no longer with us his stories carry on somehow. Whatever the origin, this novel continues his trusted theme and I have found it to be one of the most gripping and enjoyable. So long may they carry on.

Not Wilbur Smith but a Good Read
Like many of Wilbur Smith books that are co-authored this is not his style of writing. However, Tom Harper writes a good tale and this one is no exception. And in fairness, I would buy this book and enjoy it as much without Wilbur Smith’s name on the front cover.I don’t profess to fully understand how co-authoring works but it is safe to assume that when the name on the book is an author not in the land of the living, the writing has be that of the co-author.I suspect that the publisher is cashing in on Wilbur Smith’s reputation and will churn out several more books, some of which will be good and some an absolute travesty.

Not what I expected!
Oh dear, I miss Wilbur Smith!I have all his books and it's clear that once he started to co-write them they have simply not been the same standard, either in the storyline/plot or detail. I can understand why he did it....let's face it, he was getting on in years and writing is time-consuming and tiring. He possibly also wanted to encourage new authors to write for his particular genre of novels. His first books were simply stunning, and it was easy to be swept up in the magnificence of the land he clearly loved and was at pains to describe in depth, and also in the characters of the men and women he wrote about. The plots were amazing, often pretty convoluted, and whilst we almost always expected the hero/heroine to triumph, there were many times when we didn't quite see how they would get there! But you just HAD to keep reading to find out! Not any more! The more recent books have been tame by comparison.Frankly, I was bored with Storm Tide before even a quarter of the way into it. Rob Courtney totally failed to catch my imagination, unlike most of his Courtney predecessors - even the less pleasant ones! The story just didn't hold my interest, and to me it seemed as if there was always something missing...... like excitement and a real interest in the main characters, and the desire to read on to find out what would happen to them next.I won't give anything away as I'm sure there will be many readers who will love this book. However, my advice would be to read Wilbur Smith's earlier Courtney stories, and the Ballantyne's too. I'm certain you will not be disappointed.
