Not really tools steel but that's what I'm going to use it for
The purpose of getting this flat bar is for an attempt at tool making. As a wood turner, one is always in need of a cut-off tool, otherwise known as a Parting tool, the thinner, the better. Many times we work with expensive exotics and pairing away any more than is needed to separate the work is a waste of expensive. This flat stainless steel bar is the perfect candidate for making such a tool. All that will be required is to sharpen a cutting point by grinding two slopes on the end of the bar, one shorter than the other. This will provide the most meat below the cutting point. Two or three holes drilled on the other end will serve as a place to rivet to knife scales as a handle. The bar is 12" long so given a 5" handle will allow 7" of working steel. I might have to cut away a bit of the flat bar to reduce the width of the handle. That will last for quite a few grinds. It is just under an 1/8" thick which is ideal for parting. The 2" width will provide excellent strength at the blade. However, 304 stainless steel, is not the hardest steel, so potentially frequent sharpening may be required. The parting tool is one of the lesser frequent tools used so that is not an issue.I did have a slight bend in it which I was able to straighten. For a couple pieces of scrap hardwood and some rivets, this steel bar will be morphed in a useable parting tool at a huge discount to what a parting tool actually costs.

Protects my wall from people crashing carts into it
This tests as 300-series stainless steel, which is fantastic because it's all too-common to receive a lesser quality material than what was ordered. This strap is as-advertised, and it won't rust. As for thickness, the advertised thickness works out to be 11-gauge, which is an uncommon size. More common is 12-gauge, and the piece I received, though not quite 0.12" thick, is on the thick side for 12-gauage so that's absolutely fine.Where I work there is a wall that people crash carts into. The stucco keeps getting messed up there. By putting a cross brace in the wall, and mounting this strap of stainless steel where the carts bang, there now is one less maintenance worry. This strap will hold up, and the wall will hold up, too. A real bargain compared to what I would have had to get elsewhere. One last note: you are reading a Vine review, which means this product was sent to me without my having to pay for it. I never believed Vine reviews, I felt people would say anything to get free stuff. The Vine program, at least for me, is a little different: I only get what I go out of my way to ask for, and everything I get is reported as income to me, so I'll have to pay income taxes at what will probably be reported as list price. I may actually lose on the deal. But I wanted this stainless steel strap, I didn't know I could get it at Amazon before I saw it available for review, and, hopefully, my experience has been a help to you.
