Ryobi A99LM2 Door Latch Installation Kit for Accurate Chiseling and Scoring

Item was received very quickly and was packaged very well.Now there is something about a man and his tools,the ladies like their hair and nails etc,us men like our tools and gadgets.If you have been swinging doors for a few years chaps then by now marking out and cutting a latch is probably second nature but if you are like me i will give anything a go if it makes my life a little easier or quicker so i thought,why not,lets give it a shot.The tool itself is solidly made,impact resistant plastic which is just as well as you do impact it to say the least.Made with a reversible plate for both 30 or 40mm doors,drill hole for latch,offer up the tool and bang it.I have got to say it cuts and marks out for the latch very well,few taps with a chisel and all done,pretty smart.There is a curious little black blade thing that after marking you are supposed to insert in the hole and tap to remove the bulk of the latch plate depth but it is pretty useless so i removed it.There is also a screwdriver bit fitted on to the side with a receiving hole for it to fit into but every time you hit the tool it flew out so i binned it.I bought it so i persevered for a bit and found that it was cutting the depth and the outline for the latch very well which makes it just a few taps with a chisel and the job is done.If i was fitting one or two doors here and there i wouldn`t bother but when you are doing several doors i have to admit,bung it in the hole give it a whack job done,dont even need a pencil and every latch fitting nice and tight and neat,jobs a good un.See what you think,hope this helps,cheers

Good tool for the kit!

Nice and easy to install latches

Another brilliant idea by Ryobi (see my review for A99DLK4).I bought these as a pair to speed the fitting of catches to 11 standard UK doors. Having used the A99DLK4 to drill the holes, this tool does speed up the process of marking out and cutting the recess for the tubular catch.Scoring the cutout and chiselling out the bulk of the recess is a dream, taking only a few minutes. Although the built in depth gauge seems to cause the chisel to bite quite deeply into the door, it's actually the correct depth.Downsides are that it cuts slightly undersize, resulting in the need to trim out the recess by hand (not a game changer though) and the additional screwdriver bits drop out when hitting the tool. They seem to be a bit of an unnecessary feature, added to justify the quite high cost of the tool.In summary, saved a bit of time but not sure that enough was saved to justify the cost of the tool. Nice clean result but I can get that on a rectangular plate by hand (and needed to do that anyway). I wouldn't buy this again but would probably recommend this tool for a task which involves a lot of doors.**Update. Did 5 doors before the chisel tool moved and fractured the plastic. Now ONLY usable for the marking out. Would not now recommend this product.

Struggled for many years to fit door locks with varying levels of success ( with or without additional repairs/replacements) !I saw this kit on a youtube video.. this makes the process simple, quick. I fitted deadbolts to 5 doors very quickly and with minimal mess. comes with all parts. It really is a time and effort saver.. if you use it more than once it will pay for itself over and over.all I would say is that it would be nice if it had an adjustment for the cutter on the top, but you can offset this if your careful. Great addition to the companion tool..

You have to understand what this is. It is not a homeowners magic jig. It is a carpenters chisel. If you don't know how to control the force of a hammer, ensure square and centered, and how to predict when wood will split, then this tool is not for you. You can wreck a door with this tool just as easily as you can with a chisel. However, if you are handy, then this tool can help improve the quality of your job while also helping to work faster. You will still need a chisel but this is a great jig.One note of caution. I found that it generally digs a bit too deep. I'm not really sure how to correct this. It wasn't a show stopper, but something to be mindful of.
