Classic book. Captivating illustrations and detailed information on the gods and their realms, deeds and misdemeanours. For kids but rather pleasingly dark without becoming parody as in Horrible Histories. The Norse counterpart for this book is also essential. Shout out to the legend Rodney Matthews for a brilliant cover.

I had this book as a school prize many, MANY years ago. Having lost it, yet remembered it with great fondness, when my son started to become interested in the Greek myths and legends I wondered idly if I could find an old copy online. I was delighted to find it still in print. The pictures are especially evocative and for a slim volume, it carries a lot of information. My son and I both love reading it and I hope we'll both treasure this copy for many years to come.

Bought for my nine year old granddaughter it is a huge success. It is so well written that it is easily read and understood by a child and yet I found it fascinating too, rediscovering the stories I learned long ago. An excellent book - and good value too..

My main reason for buying this was as a reference book – it has a 'Who's Who' of many of the gods and heroes (including pronunciations and a short biography) at the back.As the full title says, it's a guide to the myths and legends rather than the stories themselves. My son uses it as a companion to Usborne Book of Greek Myths (Usborne Myths & Legends), which is excellent.The main part of the book runs through some Greek history, with maps, and background information on characters and stories that gives more context. I'd say it was mainly written for 8-12 year-olds.I didn't think the style of the main illustrations was well-suited to the Greek myths – they looked like Roger Dean's fantasy work had been adapted for a Meat Loaf album cover.

Arrived quickly and as shown. Well written book with beautiful illustrations, ideal for youngsters interested in these types of tales.

Bought for my 9yo sons Greek subject in History at school. Very colourful. Lots of pictures. Greek stories are not the easiest to read as lots of long names and interactions between various different individuals.

Bought as a joke gift for my dad as we are rubbish at Greek mythology clues in crosswords. Looks like it will be helpful.

Très belles illustrations et la mythologie grecque pas toujours bien connue des enfants, donc ensemble très bien. Les illustrations donnent envoie de s'y plonger, succinct mais suffisant, il y a même des personnages que je ne connaissais pas et une carte de la grèce ancienne bienvenue
