I can honestly say that this sharpener just rocks. For a battery operated sharpener, it's awesome and our pencils are sharp. Much better then the cheap ones that you try to sharpen by hand.

Does not work as I want

This is a 'proper' item with rotating cutters, and does a quick and efficient job with the smaller standard diameter pencils including colour pencils. But you won't get a junior triangular Faber-Castell through the aperture! Powered by four AA batteries, which you supply. I like the side entry design and the easily removable large shavings bin, and the overall light weight. Price is attractive, too.

If you have elementary school kids who go through loads of colored pencils or maybe are prolific journal writers, then this is a handy thing to have. It is "fun" enough to operate that sometimes I can even get the kids to do the sharpening themselves. However, if you are getting this for a teacher, get the corded one because a classroom of elementary school kids will chew through the batteries needed for this one in no time.
