beautifully illustrated, and the projects are bite-sized and perfect ...
My 8-year-old son had previously done about 2 hours of Scratch programming with a friend, and he dug into this book immediately. In about 3 hours of working solo, he managed to implement two of the five projects in this book, and customized the projects. He needed only a little help to learn to implement variables for the first time. The book is a slim volume, beautifully illustrated, and the projects are bite-sized and perfect for kids.I appreciated that these projects were more varied than just games.

Great for kids (and adults) who want to understand the basics of coding
My grandchildren loved the Coding in Scratch Games Workbook in the same series - the 9 year old was delighted to successfully produce her own game in a very short space of time. Now her friends and 7 year old sister have all caught the coding bug so she was delighted to receive this for Christmas.

Great book for 7-8 year old coders
My 8 year old loves it. This book is fantastic and very informative. The projects are well described in clear and easy language. I like that in the end of each project there is little test to check the knowledge.

Fantastic Introduction to Programming!
Kids are loving this book. It's easy to follow, and gets them programming in no time flat. The kids say it's very detailed about what to do and how to do it.It doesn't have good diagnostic tools or lessons for when things go wrong. It teaches kids not only the lessons in the book, , but how to program generally.I've included a video of the first lesson, which allowed them to program a figure that moves, changes color, and makes sounds when the mouse is depressed. They were able to complete this program in 15-20 minutes, including the initial orientation of what the program was. Each program could take 5-15 minutes after this initial orientation. There are endless possibilities after meeting the lesson objectives, so this book is a near infinite resource.Scratch is so easy to use and does a great job of teaching kids programming. This book makes it even easier and less scary.

Not what I expected
The content in this book is very basic (good for a kid in grade 1-2) and not what I expected.I think it is not properly presented on this website. No coding of any kind, no concepts of coding explained.Just a drag-n-drop blocks of simplistic predetermined cmds.Have tried to return it, but they won't pay for shipping (which is as much as the book)
