Essential uni book!
This is a fantastic book which has been such a help for writing uni essays and understanding child development. It explains everything in a simple way and gives you the key facts about each theorist. It packs a lot of information in but also allows you to use this as a starting point to research particular theorists or ideas that interest you. I also like that it is written in chronological order as this gives you a sense of how education and the understanding of child development has changed over the years. I would recommend this book to anyone studying education, childcare or child development.

Fantastic easy to use book!!
This book was highly recommended for my degree and it is fantastic! Lets be honest there are so many childcare theorists and they can become confusing however this book answers all questions. It's set out in a easy basic simple format which makes it easy to understand information on each theorist. However this book is a level3 book and my uni have advised not to reference in my work. However this book is great for gaining a good understanding and can be used as a foundation of collecting information which you can then go and quote from else where. Great buy!!

MUST HAVE!
Anybody completing a PGCE must buy this book! A tutor recommended it as an excellent starting point for theory research and she was right. The book has easy to read summaries on all the key practitioners with additional suggested reading and websites. This book was a life saver when writing my own assignments for my PGCE and I know other colleagues who found it equally useful. If you only buy one book to help with your assignments make sure it's this one!

A useful study resource on theorists and their influence
A clear and well set out book detailing approximately 20 theorists who have had influences in the way we approach early years education.I would normally dip in and out of text books but this one I was happy to read as it's set out in such a undemanding and informative way.The book is set out with headings about each theorist's;- Life and upbringing- Books and writing- Their theory- How those theories have been put into practise and their influenceThe author also critiques the theories and provides web sites and books to find out more about each one.Whilst it's definitely a useful book and one I've found interesting, I had hoped to find some information on Maslow, Rogers or Kelly so was slightly disappointed they weren't mentioned.

DONT HESITATE. ITS A MUST
Absolute lifesaver! Honestly. Over the past few years studies childhood studies, working my way up I have always struggled to get my head around the nightmare theorists!! It just never stuck in my head, websites made it so confusing and no books in the library explained it any easier. Honestly thought I just wouldn’t be able to carry on through to my degree, until I found this little beauty in the library. Continuously having to renew this because I found myself needing it more and more. I finally bit the bullet and bought it for myself. And what a great purchase is will be for completing the rest of my degree.Although one thing I will add, is this is basically like a childhood theorist book “for dummies” like myself. So basically just explains and simplifies everything down for you. So if you are using this for higher education I do recommend researching the theorists more in-depth before adding it into your work as it only tells to things in brief. But a huge must must must!! Don’t hesitate. Linda pound is a legend!

Very useful & informative
Really glad I bought this book! It’s very clear on all the theorists that were relevant to my study. I got it with the sole intention of using it to help me write an assignment for my OU course but I can see it will be of value throughout the rest of my course as a reference tool. Well worth buying

Great book to learn the theories of how children learn, I have read this and used it several times throughout my foundation degree and I'm sure I will continue to read it and use it in my honours degree. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is studying childcare.

recommend for students and tutors of childhood and education
Having used this book as a student of childhood studies, I now teach in this subject. I use this book to help my students to understand childhood educational theorists. This book is incredibly simple to use, easy to understand and attractive to look at. Highly recommended for students at all levels (including degree level) for a clear understanding for all.
