Lovely Map
Decent quality map, this is actually the second I've owned over the years. It does gradually get marked over time but it massively re-usable and makes RPGs with minis super fun. I combo-ed this up with some DnD box sets and had an absolute blast.

The product itself is good, but the dry-wipe aspect is undesirable
The mat is sturdy enough and a decent size. Having both hex and cross is an incredible plus compared to many other mats out there. However the fact you cannot use wet-wipe markers is so stupid... There's so few high-street retailers that supply them which makes replacing markers costly and cumbersome. (Not directly a fault of the mat, but an unavoidable nuisance.)There are several other mats I would recommend before trying this one, unless you have access to dry-wipe markers.- Tested wet-wipe markers and if you erase quick enough it's fine. If you let it set... Get the vodka and wire-brush out.

If you take care of the mat, the mat will take care of you.
This is a really good grid map for table top role playing games. It has a square grid on one side and a hex grid on the other so which ever form of tactical combat you prefer you are covered. It is flexible so you can roll it up between sessions for easy storage and flattens down just as easy. There is not much else to say about the product itself as it is simply a mat! I will say that the key to getting the most out of this produce is taking care of it, you can quite easily ruin it by drawing with the wrong pen or not cleaning it properly and that is not the products fault, that is the users for not doing their homework.Make sure to clean it with a damp cloth immediately when you are finished with a particular drawing on it and then again with water before you put it away. This helps it keep clean form permanent marks as even the erasable pens can leave marks if not cleared away fast enough. Plus make sure to buy the right pens to use on it, the ones suggested to purchase with this often aren't the right ones. These are the pens i bought second time around and they have bee perfect for it(after I had bought the 4 pack that comes with coloured pens and found out they don't erase, only fade). Classic
Works like a charm, and have been gaming with these mats for ages. Been a solid product for years. Works best with wet erase pens.

Good, but dry-wipe resistant
I recently bought this as we started a new Dungeons and Dragons group where I work and it seemed perfect for the encounter grids. At first I was very pleased with the size in full, and also the grid size, however, this quickly turned to dismay when the dry-wipe markers would not wipe off.We found a quick solution in applying just a dab of Vodka (I'm sure any white spirit or board-cleaner would also work) which brought it up a treat, but I did not expect such an issue to arise at all.

Y'know why this product only has 20 or so reviews?
This is the mat that you buy and then take with you to any RPG session you attend, unless someone there already owns one. You draw on it, set tiles on it, play with miniatures or tokens, roll it up and put it away. You practically forget it's an essential part of your DM stuff collection, until the day you've left it at home by mistake. Over a decade later, you realize it has survived more abuse and wear than every piece of furniture in your house. It's easy to forget to write a glowing review of a product that isn't terribly flashy and stays with you forever and ever -- if I wasn't about to buy a second one of these to permanently install on a table, I wouldn't have thought to pop in here and 5-star it either.Granted, it's just a vinyl mat with squares and hex-marks. But this is exactly everything you could possibly want from a vinyl mat with squares and hex-marks. The alternatives for sale (notably including products by the sorta awful "Role 4 Initiative") are just overpriced big sheets of laminated paper, which sound nice at first (you can use Sharpies!) but tend to crinkle when rolled up (and will never ever lay flat again). Rather than buy a $20 gigantic laminate that Kinko's could probably create for a third the cost, buy this mat. And if you remember to, years and years later, come back and write a 5-star review about how durable and useful it was. :)(Oh, and in the event of stains, just google for how to clean vinyl. We've cleaned a wider variety of gunk off this mat than it would be possible to clean out of carpet. Soda, condiments, dust from bags of chips, blood from a nosebleed, permanent marker, glue, paint used to paint miniatures, paint used to paint walls, coffee, and a million things I'm forgetting. I've heard of people throwing their mats away over accidental Sharpie use -- don't! trust the google! it's recoverable!)Chessex also makes a larger version of this mat, in case you want to have longbow fights. I think a larger mat would just be more cumbersome.

Hard to unwrinkle and has some marks, but works great.
Getting this thing to look flat has been a real pain. Even now after leaving it under heavy boxes and the like for nights at a time, it still isn't totally flat. There are a few marks that I think I made on it (probably from accidentally dragging some heavy boxes across it... oops), and those aren't coming off any time soon. Maybe ever. But I'll be damned if it doesn't work great with WET erase markers and clean really easily. All things considered I think this is still a fantastic product. If the potential initial crumpled/wrinkled state it arrives in will be a big problem for you though, then maybe hold off I suppose.

Mat is great, my reading is bad.
It's a great play mat, but I thought I was buying a 24x36 rectangle mat instead of a square one. Obviously, not Chessex's fault I can't read. If you want a square playmat, GET THIS. It's great. Wet erase markers work very well and wipe off easy peasy lemon squeezey. If you're looking for a rectangle mat, remember to read the actual dimensions of the product first!

Good size, easy to clean.
This is a good size for a gaming map, to cut down on constant redrawing without being table-drowningly huge. Cleans up nicely with wet-erase markers.Rolls up for storage, but I don't recommend folding it. It does hold creases pretty tenaciously.
