The Study of American Folklore: An Introduction (4th Edition) Fourth Edition

The book itself came into me in excellent condition! It was an amazing price for a hardback textbook and it looks great on my shelf. It was pretty easy to read and definitely a good read if one is interested in American Folklore. It's an excellent companion to any introductory folklore class.

This is a very good textbook. My son really enjoyed this class and all that he learned from it. Very informative and easy to understand.

Reading it for a Folklore class. It does offer a different perspective on folklore. Many elements in our daily lives are based on folklore. Alright. Fine. I get it. Some passages are interesting to read and others drone on and on about something that can be said in a few paragraphs. I often find the language to be rather elitist and pretentious. I get that folklore is an important aspect of our lives, but it seems like the author is overanalyzing the concept entirely. The only people who would truly appreciate this book and others similar to it are students in the field of folklore. I feel like this book is an attempt to hold on to something they feel like they are losing. I agree folklore is important, but is it worth analyzing in such depth?I will quote one of the passages I am reading on page 548. "The woman making quilts for her grandchildren the way her grandmother made one for her grabs the attention of the folklorist. When a woman makes quilts for art shows and clubs, or learns to make quilts from a kit or class, the object attracts the student of popular culture."This book is filled with narrative like this one. This is why I feel like the author attempts to make something so small into something of major importance. I admit that I have learned more than I thought I would. It has opened my eyes to the world of folklore, but I believe the book could have made an even greater impact if it wasn't so pretentious. The author should have made folklore more appealing to the average reader than just students of folklore as they are such a limited audience I'm sure.

Had to order this book for my Folklore & Folklife class I am taking. Gives a very good overview on "folklore", and is definitely an easy read for everyone. It is a textbook, so it's not the most interesting thing in the world but is still very helpful.

Folklore is the up and coming new "science." History be damned! Folklore is where it's at (the true history, that is). Brunvand is one of the dogs and this book is magnificent!

There was some highlights already in the book but it didn’t bother me since it was helpful for key terms. Otherwise the condition was pretty good

Did everything I needed it for. Folklore is kind of interesting.
