A New Light on Tiffany: Clara Driscoll and the Tiffany Girls

Very informative; illustrations are outstanding
My book club choose to read "Clara and Mr. Tiffany" by Susan Vreeland for our May meeting. The book brings to light the artistic career of Clara Driscoll at the Tiffany Studios, where she designed and crafted Tiffany lamps for the Tiffany Studios during 1890s and 1900s. She also supervised the women's department - 35 artisans known as the Tiffany Girls - that she trained to produce amazingly beautiful stained glass lamps, windows and mosaics. After reading the book, I had to find a book with pictures of the lamps. "A New Light on Tiffany: Clara Driscoll and the Tiffany Girls" was produced by the New-York Historical Society in 2007 to go with an exhibition of Tiffany lamps and other home decor items produced by Clara Driscoll and her department. Includes very informative text on the history of the Tiffany Studios and the work of Clara and the Tiffany Girls and 101 illustrations. Illustrations are outstanding and show the astounding artistry and beauty of the Tiffany lamps and other work by these women artisans. Just breathtaking. If you are interested in this subject, this is the book to buy!

Importance of WOMEN TO MR TIFFANY!
This book is a fascinating discovery for me!Because of a family connection to Tiffany I have become immersed in this research which I have recently discovered! I plan to use this book as well as CLARA AND MR TIFFANY in January for my book club report!

A fine book for a limited audience
You have to be knowlegable about Louis Comfort Tiffany art glass and decorative products, or a fan of Clara Driscoll, to get the most from this book. I am both and found it well researched and thoroughly engaging. It was written after the authors found and analyzed troves of Driscoll letters home to her family housed in several museums. It's clear that the author of "Noon at Tiffany's" relied heavily on this research.

Absolutely eye-popping
Having read the novel - Clara and Mr. Tiffany - I wanted to see the catalog of the exhibit that inspired the novel. Oh. my gosh ! this is a gorgeous book. Wonderful photos of the original artworks, copies of Clara's letters and drawings. The truth was so much better than the fiction.

Insight into History
I recently saw a Tiffany Lamp Exhibition in Asheville, NC. at the Biltmore. The colors of the lamps were wonderful. I bought this book and really enjoyed the history it provided. I have a new appreciation of Louis Tiffany and the people who made this art possible.

My husband loved this book
My husband is a stained glass artist specializing in making Tiffany Reproduction Lamps. He said this is the best book that he has ever read concerning Clara Driscoll and the girls that actually made many of the Tiffany Lamps.

It's about time Tiffany is outed.
Working with stained glass is my hobby and I have always admired the works of "Louis C. Tiffany". I was very surprised to read that he did not, in fact, design and build most of those beautiful lamps and panels. It is more than time that the world meet the real people behind the scenes of Tiffany's domain. I look at him differently and now appreciate the beautiful work performed by Clara Driscoll and her girls. Such a shame they are not alive to appreciate their coming out in public. Great book, beautifully written and gorgeous photos of the ladies' work.
