When using the built in battery, is there any noise? Some people are saying that this unit isn't isolated

No noise. Just like a big 9 volt battery. The noise comes from the transformer, the power supply. Even plugged in, it is pretty quiet. Love it!

I have read definitions in terms of multi-output devices, that the grounds must be isolated, and this is not the case here. 0 ohms from center pin to center pin on adjacent connectors is enough to disqualify. However, as long as there are no ground loops in your rig, and clean connectors and cables, this shouldn't be a problem, and has never been a problem to me. This supply has inside a lot of engineering design. I opened it up and spotted a STM8S003 micro-controller and an FP5139 Boost convert chip. I wish I could get a look at the schematics to see what's really going on in there. But I've been using mine for about a year now, and it has been great. It powers my Electro-Harmonix 5MM power amp with 3 or 4 pedals running for hours on a charge. Never any hum or apparent interaction between pedals.

When the internal battery is dead, can it be plugged in the wall to use still?

It is a rechargeable battery. The performance of a dead battery being used while being charged (It is charging if it is plugged in) will be greatly diminished. If you can plug it in there is no need for a battery powered unit.
