Peter Greenaway directs this culinary tale of passion and revenge. An arrogant gangster (Michael Gambon) invests in a popular French restaurant, which he begins to frequent with his wife (Helen Mirren) and a band of crooks. He delights in humiliating his spouse, and, when she begins an affair with another patron (Alan Howard), the restaurant's cook (Richard Bohringer) tries to protect them from her husband's wrath.

Excellent service. Great VFM.
Long time Peter Greenaway fan. Video replacement therapy. Everyone in this film is on top form. Especially Mirren and Gambon. Ian Dury doesn't seem out of his depth either! Good stuff!😃

À splendid sickening feast of a film (but deserves an even better blu ray transfer)
A fantastically perverse and cruel film from Mr Greenaway at the peak of his provocative powers. It carries over some of the ideas and obsessions of Zed and Two Noughts - and adds many more! It’s a feast for the eyes (as they say) but might put you off your dinner. I’ve had a (decent) French DVD of this marvel for many years. Nothing terrible about it but there was no option to turn off the French subtitles. This is a good high def transfer to blu ray on the whole - and the richness of the colours and Maestro Vierny’s photography are nicely reproduced. It reminded me of seeing it all those years ago in the cinema. Unfortunately, a few digital artefacts have crept in (‘digital snowflakes’, I’d describe them as) that spoil a couple of edits between scenes. However, these are over in a flash and only a minor distraction. Bon appetit!

Unusual but very good.
Peter Greenaway does not do usual mainstream films. If you want a film that is unusual, striking and very different, give this a look.

Great
Arrived on time, it's a good quality dvd but there is no credit leaflet enclosed. I remember the first time this move was realised and I could never find any copies around the web, I don't think it did that well on its realise but it's one I remember. A very theatrical movie, in the british film industry. Glad I've got this again in my collection. I did have this on vhs (video) but it disappeared in a tardis somewhere. Five star because its brand new, quality picture.. mostly has described and what to expect from dvd. Came in sealed packaging. Enjoy.

Not a good film they transfered from
The 2016 bluray is not a good transfer, there are numerous bad artefacts, particularly when scenes change. Needs a remaster.More to the point when will we see a complete frame by frame remaster of this extraordinary mans catalogue Arbelos, Criterion, Eureka, Imprint, BFI...Greenaways Masterpiece 'Prospero's Books' is not even on Blu Ray!

Love Love LOVE this Movie!
I hadn't seen this movie in over 25 years. It took some time to find it (it's not streaming anywhere in Canada), but I finally did! This movie is beautiful, disgusting, brutal and oh-so satisfying. It is very sentimental to me as it was one of my (now) husband and I's first date movies. Very much an art movie. In my opinion, one of the best endings of any movie I have ever seen.

Cronicas marcianas
