Lots of memories
Our family lived in Boerne, Texas, during this time. My children graduated from Boerne High School. Boerne was such a different place in the early 1980's, and Mr. Doenges has recaptured some of that atmosphere. He expresses what many parents know, but do not admit, that in every school system there are problems with the students, faculty, administration and community. Sadly, many of the problems addressed by the author are still present in the public educational system, in spite of the so-called reforms. Somewhere in the mix the real purpose of education has been lost and the only goal now is to achieve a superficial rating based on test scores. Is it any wonder parents who value real education to prepare their children for a future, any future, have decided to seek alternatives other than the public educational system? The comments concerning the European model of education are interesting and should be considered, not necessarily adopted, by those seriously interested in education our future leaders.
