4kg Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher - ABC - FireShield

Powder extinguishers can be used on all types of fires and are perfect for home use as well as office/business use. The nice thing about powder is that you don't have to worry about what type of fire to use it on. Any type of fire in the home, this type of extinguisher will deal with it.I bought this one to replace a rusty, 20+ year old 4kg dry powder extinguisher that was being used as a door-stop in my garage. I recently had the need to use this old extinguisher to put out a fire in my loft caused by a 500w halogen light (will never use those things again!). The fire was well established and flames reached from loft floor to the apex of the roof. The powder extinguisher initially put out the fire but it then reignited after a few seconds. Thankfully there was enough powder left in the extinguisher to put the reignited fire out again, this time for good. The fire brigade arrived about 8 minutes afterwards, but thankfully did not have to use their water hoses, which would have caused considerable further damage. If the extinguisher had been a smaller domestic size (e.g.1kg or 2kg) there would not have been sufficient volume of powder to put out this fire; so I was very relieved that it was a 4kg which is still a very manageable size to handle. Initially the old extinguisher did not work, so I quickly snapped off the flexible hose and thankfully it then worked, and worked well.I ordered this replacement extinguisher the day after the fire. It arrived quickly and appears to be of high quality. It has a plastic protective cover on the base and a pressure gauge to indicate that all is ok. It also comes with a metal wall mounting bracket and an EU certificate of conformity.The extinguisher was ordered 2nd May 2015 and appears to have been assembled and tested to order before despatch as both the metal case and the cardboard box it came in have been date stamped with manufacture date of May 2015.Do yourself a favour and get one of these. You think you will never need it, but believe me, you will be very glad you bothered should a fire ever start in your house or office. I speak from experience having used one in anger and I'm now very reassured that I have a new, tested extinguisher at hand should I ever need it and £26.76 including delivery is a small price to pay for that reassurance. This one will definitely not be used as a door -stop!

Arrived a day early. Very well packed. Has a pressure gauge which is so much better than a "use before date". We have extinguishers that must be 20 years old that are still good for pressure, where as those without gauges you are meant to replace every 5 years (costing four times as much). Also works in the other direction - if there is a fault and the pressure has escaped, complaining it is inside its use before date is not going to put the fire out!We bought a number of extinguishers and one of the smaller ones had a broken seal - the seller went above and beyond. Very impressed.

The only reason for not giving a 5 out of 5 is due to not using it yet. Otherwise delivery was very quick. Never used amazon until now & I'm so impressed! Item is bigger then I thought. Well worth thr money

I live in a 2nd floor flat and people may think it's abit extreme but I would rather have this than not. My worry is with phone chargers and Xbox etc so i feel safer knowing it's there. I hope i never need to use it. It's large and comes with a very small bracket so you can put it on the wall, which I have. Contact with the company was also good. It has a gage on it so you know the pressure is right and it's good to use.

Pleased with purchase, through Amazon appeared to be best value, and as a previous reviewer quoted, if your reading this then you need an extinguisher!

I've been asked to review this and I will if we ever have a fire!!! Fingers crossed, that won't hapen.What I can say is that it arrived on time, good communication from the supplier about delivery slot etc, and it looks like a well-made product. We'll be buying a couple more for other areas.

I bought this for home, which is a rented, old flat, above an old lady in the flat below. I hope I never need it, but this feels as if it would have the capacity to deal with quite a bit. Ordered before 2pm and took two days to arrive. Has a pressure gauge to show when it needs replacing.

Out of two items we ordered, the plastic base on one was broken, but easily put right with a bit of proxy glue.Looks solid and the gauges indicate that pressure is within range.Arrived very quickly, but hope we never get to test it in order to write a review from a user's perspective!
