Make a manga from a movie, part four
This is a book format of Hayao Miyakazi's film "Howl's Moving Castle". The first three volumes covered the earlier parts of the story, and this is the last. Basically, it takes several frames from the film and plonks dialogue speech bubbles in place so it can read like a manga or graphic novel. The story resumes with Howl starting to make preparations for his "family" to get along without him. Sophie continues to flicker between a younger version of herself (taller, slimmer, but with white hair and no wrinkles) and the cursed version (old, stooped, covered in creased wrinkles), and it seems that she changes depending on whether she is thinking about Howl or about herself. She is very upset by the notion that Howl might be leaving them, and seems unphased when she sees Howl in a mutated raven-man state while he tries to protect the castle from some of Madam Sulliman's sludge monsters.Sophie acts desperately to break the connection between the castle and her old hat shop during the attack, using the magic door system to take Calcifer out of the house at a different location. But the Witch of the Waste finally figures out where Howl's heart has been hidden, and Sophie fears that both Calcifer and Howl might have been killed by the subsequent action she takes to save the Witch. But she discovers at last the reason Howl and Calcifer are joined to each other, one that depends on her finding Howl and reuniting him with his long stolen heart... assuming she can get that heart before both Howl and Calcifer really die. It's not quite as good as the film... some of the best jokes are either mistranslated for the manga or left out entirely (like when Howl tells Sophie her hair is like starlight: in the manga, she declares, "I love you!", but in the film, she says, "You think so? So do I!" before kissing him senseless). But overall, it's a non-electric powered way of enjoying the anime all over again, and seeing some of the lovely Studio Ghibli designs. Enjoy!
