SilverStone SST-SX500-LG v 2.0 - SFX Series, 500W 80 Plsu Gold PC Power Supply, Low Noise 120mm, 100% modular

Picked up the SST-SX700LPT to go into a mini-ITX build and thus far doing the job perfectly fine.With 700w the unit is capable of feeding most CPU and GPU combinations around and for most the at much less then its rated capacity for typical parts so works fine in that regards. This unit is of course the slightly longer SFX-L and the extra housing is used to accommodate a larger 120mm fan. For most the part under low loads the fan does not spin at all (provided it also has adequate airflow) and only when it gets hotter under a load such as gaming, will the fan spin up, though to be honest even then, its fairly inaudible to me.There are plenty of cables included of the flat ribbon variety and thankfully this time unlike my last purchase of a SFX silverstone PSU, they actually include a UK model kettle lead. Oddly unlike with the 500w SFX-L unit from Silverstone also, they have not included a SFX to ATX power bracket, so you will need to buy one if you plan to eventually put into a ATX case, something that would make more sense with a 700w supply over a 500w supply to be honest.Anyways, it does what it says on the tin. If I did not have the custom sleeved cabled, I think I may have looked at the 600w corsair SFX unit to be honest, as its much cheaper yet looking at online review's (JonnyGuru) and the like performs even better in area's like ripple and 600w is adequate for most builds.

Very disappointed, I figured getting a high wattage unit for my NAS that claimed low noise would mean the fan could slow down due to never being heavily loaded. Sadly as seems to be the case for all FlexATX PSUs, it doesn't have a PWM fan so it sounds the same regardless of load and doesn't seem any quieter than the PSU my case came with.Its not a bad PSU, I'd expect it to last a long time due to being more efficient with low-load compared to the stock PSU, but I had really hoped it would be quieter. Its such a shame the best NAS cases compromise on the PSU, as just moving up to SFX you can find PSUs that are almost completely silent.Its rather bizarre as you can find external power bricks up to around 250W that are much quieter than this, so not sure why nobody has managed to make a FlexATX that is quiet. I can only guess its because typically FlexATX is for rack mounted hardware where noise level is not an issue.

Overall an amazing PSU for the price, with one subjective hiccupPros:The power supply comes with an ATX bracket which is nice for compatibility with larger cases or cases which dont support sfx/sfx-lCompletely Modular (very rare at this pricepoint, £66 and totally modular)80+ Gold again, most others in this price range are bronze rated which arent as efficient as gold ratedSFX-L is nice for itx towers like the Fractal Define Nano-SCons:The cables are very short, this could very well be a positive given its designed form factor but in an itx tower the 24pin is so short you an only just route it to the motherboard if the mobo has its 24pin on the right, if it has it on the top you need an extensionI bought mine with a set of BitFenix Alchemy Sleeved extensions for the 24pin Power, 8pin CPU and will be buying one for the PCI-e to matchhonestly, the short cables were almost a positive in this sense as i didnt have excess cabling from using extensions however if youre not using extensions be aware of the very short nature of the cables.

This is probably the easiest to get Flex ATX PSU out there, but it comes with some caveats. The cables are stiff and difficult to move around. The cables are also probably going to be too long or too short for your application, and there are probably going to be too many of them. It's also not quiet. The fan can adjust, and does start out quiet, but for me the fan ramps up and never ramps down.On the plus side it is easy to get, it's relatively cheap for a Flex ATX PSU, and it's from a brand name.

Great as a compact design high power option, but they do have a habit of going pop and dying. The Silverstone support has been excellent, but constant replacements are not ideal for continuity and I fully expect the next replacement to just out-last the warranty before it dies again.

Not sure what other reviewers have done to this PSU but I have found it to be nice and quiet with plenty of juice to run an i5 and Nvidia 1660 super which is powering my VR setup from a mini case. Noise is my enemy with a PC build and using a smaller case is always a problem but not with this one. Sure it ramps up a bit when full on gaming but I'm in the zone at that point and don't care. If you need a 450W SFX supply, go ahead and get it.

Nice compact PSU which fits nicely in even the most cramped chassis. The big problem with it is the truly crazy noise levels it puts out. Running with an ARM board with a single NVMe drive (probably about 70-80w) the noise output is easily the loudest component in my entire rack. It's worse than a graphics card under full load .. and I can hear it in the next room. If you buy this you need to factor in another 10 or 11 ukp for a silent fan. I recommend the noctua NF-A4-10.
