Marvellous machine!
I bought this model elsewhere but it is a great machine for beginners and those more experienced. It boasts a one step buttonhole foot and a button sewing foot as well as a standard foot, zipper foot and darning plate. It has numerous stitches including zigzag, blind hemming, an overlock type stitch and a number if embroidery stitches. The best thing of all (for those visually challenged, is it has an automatic needle threader! You must have the needle in the highest position and it takes a few goes but once you have the technique, it is a Godsend. Although there is nothing in the manual about needle position, I found (on google of course) that by selecting the straight stitch on the dial and then widening the width, you can move the needle to the left of centre and use a “stitch in the ditch” foot (not supplied) for accurate top stitching. I’ve had mine for 6 months and as a person who used to sew from necessity, I absolutely love sewing on this marvellous machine.

Good beginners machine
I was a complete beginner when I got this machine and it is working well. It is fairly robust, but you do need to follow the rules (thread path, only rotate side knob towards you, etc). I still have a lot to learn. Lubricate it carefully when noisy. Should last me many years.

Brilliant, strong for the price and easy to use.
This is a fantastic machine......bought was from elsewhere, so it was astonishing value too. The manual took some reading as I have never used a sewing machine before, but with help from the internet, all has become clear. This machine punches well above its weight, with 3 needle positions and plenty of stitches for me, anyway. There are various videos online to help figure out the automatic needle threader, but once you get the hang of it, it is absolutely brilliant! The metal chassis inside should make it last too...It does handle shortening jeans, though I go very slowly with this task and did invest in the correct needles for that, plus one of those little plastic gadgets to help at the thick seams.....I don't want to risk my lovely new machine. My instruction book does not specify which bobbins are needed and you only get three with the machine, so ifanybody else has fou d out, I would be glad to know!

No presser foot tension adjustment
I bought this machine as a temporary replacement a year ago, with the intention of making a list of features I really missed to help my choice when upgrading again. I have used the Singer Tradition 2282 on dressmaking projects, and also on quilting projects using a variety of fabrics. For dressmaking projects, I was really happy with the result. This machine sews pretty well for the budget, and I was expecting it to be a whole lot worse. However, I had some tension issues right from the start when sewing plain cotton fabric. The presser foot caused puckering because it clamps down very strongly on the fabric, so I have never been able to get a good seam on woven cotton. As a result, quilting projects require excessive squaring up, and the iron helps remove the puckering but only until the item is washed. As for machine quilting, I bought an even feed foot and a meandering foot online and they worked a treat.A personal issue I have with this machine is the front-loading bobbin. Many people don't mind this, but having always used top-loading bobbins until now, I felt there are too many extra steps when changing the bobbin, and it is also not possible to see when the bobbin is running low on thread. In contrast, a big bonus is the needle threader, something which until now has only appeared on higher level machines. However, the needle threader can be a bit hit and miss, so I resorted to manual threading around 10% of the time.I would highly recommend this machine for someone starting out as it is inexpensive and easy to use, but for those looking for a more precise result as is required with piecing quilts, I would recommend upgrading to a machine with an adjustable presser foot.
