McDougalls Instant Thickening granules - 6 x 170g

I have used this for years. I originally could only purchase the small tub from Morrisons.I find this thickner very versatile, much better than cornflour, as it does not require cooking out. It can be used for sweet or savoury dishes, and have used it in cuppa soups, sauces, and gravy. Providing the liquid is warm to hot, stir in.I have for years purchased this from Amazon, generally the 1kg catering box, for around £18 to £20, price has crept up over the years, but gone up significantly in price, and it's now seems more cost effective to buy 6 individual tubs.I brought 2 x6 tubs to stock up.Arrived quickly.

I was thrilled to discover them on Amazon at a great price and bought 6 of them.They’re really good for thickening soups etc and don’t need ‘cooking out’ like cornflour.I’m very happy (it’s the little things) 😊

In the past I have struggled to find the right product to thicken sauces. Previously I have resorted to purchasing thickeners whilst on holiday in France. During the pandemic of course I couldn't get over to purchase my usual product and cornflour has never been an ideal substitute. Luckily I came across McDougalls thickener. This product has been a life saver and easily thickens up sauces in minutes or almost seconds! The only downside I have to the thickener is that Palm oil is one of the key ingredients, which I try to avoid as much as possible. Apart from that I have no complaints or issues and would highly recommend.

I was introduced to these many years ago now by an American family. They are increasingly difficult to find on supermarket shelves in the UK which meant I was stockpiling them if I ever came across them. They are so convenient to use and since they don't affect the taste of whatever you have cooked, I think they are pretty close to perfect. Certainly far easier than combining a flour-based thickener or cornflour, both of which alter the taste.

Delighted to find this on Amazon. Not found any in local supermarkets for three years . It is so helpful. You don't get the taste that gets added from using flour by itself.Just remember from adding it to your sauce or gravy allow plenty of time while stirring before thinking you need to add more to the mix.. I have made that mistake a few times.It is wonderful to use.Note. Add a little bit to hot cocoa or hot flavoured milk to get a special thick milk shake. Constant stirring will make the product disappear into the liquid.
