Home Alone/Home Alone 2 [DVD]

I am so glad that "Amazing" Amazon, as I call this site, have something that I have always wished for and wanted. Combining Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York was pure genius! I wanted to hurry up and get this movie before they were sold out to the point where there would not be anymore in stock ever again. These movies brought a lot of memories for me. I was in grade school when both movies were out. My mother didn't get a chance to take us to see the first Home Alone movie at a movie theater, but she sure took my younger sister and myself to see the second one at the movies. I remember right before being in the jr. high grades (7th & 8th grade), throughout high school, and after graduating from high school, how the local TV network and cable television would show those movies on the night of both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The third movie was very crappy! Then had the nerve and audacity to make a fourth one! I'm sure the fourth one wasn't good (I didn't see that one), but I saw the third one once, and never saw it again ( and never will either!). That explains why buying the first two Home Alone movies in one DVD set was a huge deal to me. Ain't nothing like the original! In this case, the sequel to the first one was just as successful, pleasant, and enjoyable enough to watch. Like many movies, the first two Home Alone movies can be watched any time of the year, however, watching them movies around the holiday season is the best time to watch them, based on the storyline of the movie. It's what is represents and symbolizes that makes it that much important. These movies are so great that people of all ages watch them with their families and friends! I'm so fortunate that I remember when they first came to the "big screen" and will always treasure the first two Home Alone movies for years to come. Had both movies on VHS and now -in the present- got them on DVD. I also got my sister a copy as well, as a Christmas gift, who I am sure will enjoy this, just as much as I do. Although I have purchased these movies through YouTube (now Google TV), I still had to buy this one DVD set case, because it is a classic that is as touching as it is hilarious. Perfect cast, storyline, and props. Need I say more? All I have to say left is that if you all are fans of these movies, hurry up and get them while they are available. Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York are true Christmas movie classics that will last a lifetime!

This is an all time Christmas classic in my opinion. This movie is just about one of the funniest and cutest movies to watch you will laugh and at some point you may cry. I don't think I need to explain this movie as I'm sure everyone has watched it one time or another but if not it's about a little boy that as mistakenly left home alone while his family left on vacation for the Christmas holiday, they never realized they didn't have the kid until they were boarding the plane. The little boy wakes up and his family is gone, he's all alone in this big house at Christmas time. There is a burglar in town and he goes up against the bad guys, he fends for himself and does well. It's sad in a way but hilarious in other ways. A must see for the holidays. Macaulay Culkin at his best (so young but so great an actor) this is both the original and Home Alone 2.

Beautiful movie

I'm going to agree with previous reviewer "L. Velasco" and say that this collection is awesome, except for the picture quality of the second movie. With Home Alone, you can tell that they took time to remaster it for the transfer to Blu-ray and although it still has that "early 90s" look to the picture, it is still a great transfer. It breathes new life into a film that's 20+ years old. But in Home Alone 2 - my favorite of the two - it is PAINFULLY obvious that they just took the DVD master and cranked up the resolution to 1080p. Grainy doesn't even describe it. Usually in a bad transfer you can just see some grain in darker scenes. But in this release of Home Alone 2, it's evident in EVERY scene. It was actually distracting to the point where even my wife noticed it, and she's not an HD-snob like myself. That being said, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoy-ability of the movie. These are still two of my favorite Christmas movies, and I'm happy to now own them on Blu-ray.One aspect that really shines is the obviously remastered soundtracks on both discs! They are DTS-Master Audio and sound amazing!! I have a better-than-average home theater system and it really came alive while watching these films. The musical score was meticulously separated into all 5 channels and I heard details and LOTS of crisp, deep bass notes that I never heard before. In HA2 when the pigeons come to get Harry and Marv, there were wings flapping all around me. The sound engineers did an awesome job with these movies and, for me at least, it was the most enjoyable aspect of watching them on Blu. One small negative thing I noticed is that there were some inconsistencies in dialog volume where it was much lower than in the previous scene, almost to the point of needing to raise the volume to hear it clearly.Overall, this was a worthy purchase, especially at the price I paid. I'm glad to have these two "classics" (man, I'm getting old!) on Blu-ray to have in my collection for years to come to share with my future children for them to enjoy them the same way I did when they first came out. If you enjoyed either or both film(s), buy this set. You will not regret it!!

This is one of the best Christmas movies at a very good price!
