Spoilers!
Until the very end of this fourth novel in the series, I was feeling that this might be the point where I stopped reading and said goodbye to Beth and Alex.I enjoyed the three previous books immensely. But in this one, Alex has to abandon his disguise Sir Anthony almost at the start. And it becomes clear that without his alter ego, Alex himself is a crashing bore. Always right, at least in his own mind, and the author always agrees with him, which is very wearing. And when Beth tells him about Richards assault on her, Alex immediately finds a way to make this all about HIM and sulks for days. Poor. There are enough men like this in the real world, we expect better in a romantic hero. But there's a belter of a cliffhanger at the end, and now I have to read on. Maybe book 5 will be the point where I say goodbye...

Very moving
I love the tension that builds in this book for anyone who knows about the Jacobite rising of '45. When the dreaded name crops up, I was thinking, no, not yet, it can't be.There are plenty of wonderful factual details contained in this fictional story. The one that gets me the most is the treatment of women (by every man bar, I think, Ian). In every book its had the hairs standing up on my body in anger. The fact that women were truly seen as commodities to serve their betters is almost unbelievable in this day and age. We really have fought for every liberty and freedom over the years. Even the nicer men show incredible arrogance towards women and men's right to treat them however they wish. After my reticence about parts of the second book, I'm really glad I stuck with the series. I have been glued to it ever since I started and will no doubt remain so until the very end.

Great read
Really enjoying this series and would recommend. This book covers the build up to Culloden and follows Alex and Beth as they march with Bonnie Prince Charlie's army. Great descriptions and building tension.

Awesome series!!!
Having (swiftly) paced myself through number 1, (scene setting and getting to know the characters), I raced into number 2, cantered into number 3 and galloped into number 4 and now I find I’m holding myself at the start of number 5 with a pain in my heart, tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat swearing allegiance to the Jacobite cause vowing vengeance. It is with trepidation I pick up the journey…..Amazingly well written to invoke so many emotions throughout the series…. Recommending to anyone who’ll listen 😝

Excellent worth the 5 stars
Great read can't wait to read the next book. Intriguing, loyalty unbound. Pain and suffering, strength to carryon with life but never giving up.

Outstanding!
Wonderful! I won’t give any spoilers, but my need to read the next book has grown almost as fast as my love for the characters! I can’t complement the author Julia Brannan enough, her writing style is so compelling it’s hard to put her books down. Even one of my most favourite authors Diana Gabaldon, has tweeted that she’s reading this series. What a compliment! So if you are an outlander fan you couldn't go far wrong by reading these whilst you wait for the next one. Buy the whole series, you won’t be disappointed., but my need to read the next book has grown almost as fast as my love for the characters! There has to be another book - quickly please!
I was reading this last book quite leisurely...enjoying the story telling, wondering if Alex manages to do some harm to Richard, if Beth will finally fall pregnant.. As the story was getting closer to Battle of Culloden it was more and more difficult to read at leisurely pace. I practically swallowed the rest of the story in couple of hours. The whole progress and struggles of Jacobite army are some greatly explained, that I feel an expert in this field of history myself. Wonderful. And when finally the Battle of Culloden arrived, I couldn't believe there was only 20% of the book left. There are some many things unresolved!!!The battle itself is described with great detail, I had a feeling I was standing there with all the Highlanders, couldn't believe who got killed (!!!!NOOO). What I loved the most about this bit of book is the fact that the author wasn't trying to make it a happy ending. No. She took the characters we loved away! Like in reality, the good people were taken...I was really shaken reading the last pages. Desolate..Can't wait for another book.
