Punk-Pop Classic
I first got into Radio Stars when they did the BBC In Concert and saw them live on the Eddie & the Hot Rods tour. They were good fun. I know people say that Andy Ellison (singer) is a bit of an opportunist (John's Children, Jet, etc) but I think his place is here. I bought it for the first LP and the BBC disc. It doesn't have the second In Concert they did - must say it wasn't very good as they'd gone a bit heavy rock by then - I think Martin Gordon (bass, writer, and previously in Sparks!) had left by then. I hadn't bought the second album and although I'd the previous Chiswick compilation, was a bit let down by the tracks. Here they sound much better - although nowhere near as good as the first LP. They should have been big - but I think Iam Macleod's hair put people off them!!

GREAT BRITISH POWER POP FROM THE LATE 70S/EARLY 80S..................................
i to am one of these idiots that really liked the radio stars some 35 years back, it has actually been longer since i discovered them in 1980, this band always kind of reminded me of venus and the razor blades , a bit of the fabulous poodles first lp from 1977 and the early radiators stuff, the radio stars never made a dent over here in the us but never went forgotten by me as every few years i go on a kick and spin one of there first two albums i got on cd a couple of decades ago and YES i still have my vinyl as i never parted with that, anyway as stated these guys hit the scene a couple of years before the uk mod revival but i always felt there sound ( not lyrics) fit in there quite a bit, over all great late 1970s power pop here with some timeless songs that make this great remastered box set worth every penny, all discs have great remastering and this comes in a great clam shell box with replica lp sleeve cd sleeves and a small booklet, i think it may be safe to say EVERYTHING the radio stars ever recorded are all in this clam shell box so enjoy if power pop ( late 70s style) was/is your thing!!!!

Radio Stars de luxe
Dies Band hat sich perfekt zwischen Punk, Rock und diversen anderen Musikrichtungen bewegt. Extraklasse sind vor allem die Texte. Der neuste Song heißt: the beast of Ankara ! Das sagt alles !!!

How to do a box set correctly!
Well, first comments here.I've been a fan of the Radio Stars for, well, a stupid long time. I bought Songs For Swinging Lovers when it came out, mostly because it had a free single. I did things like that then. Little did I know that I had discovered a band that would stick with me for decades.I bought the LPs, I bought the singles, including the wonderfully silly 5" From A Rabbit single.Great hooks, silly lyrics, silly jokes. One of the best power pop bands of all time. Do not expect a reasonable, deep review here. This is everything. Really everything. Both LPs, all non album single sides. All the b-sides. The Peel Sessions. A live show. This is Radio Stars heaven. The LPs seem to be the same versions that were released a few years ago. Unlike so many reissues of 70s stuff, it is remastered really well for CD. The drums aren't shoved to the front as is the case with so many reissues from the era. The guitar is still the most prominent part of the mix. Andy is right up front with the vocals. This collection sounds wonderful. The liner notes are wonderful. Great photos. This is a perfect collection. The completest in me is very happy,

Nostalgia is what it use to be
I'm not sure if anybody who is new to this group will agree with this opinion as it is probably heavily influenced by my memories of seeing these guys back in the late 70s in both their and my primeThey fell under the "punk" blanket when they emerged onto the scene, but really they would probably be better classified as a particularly good pub rock band

not knocked out
well ...,. this was another one of those reissues that looked good on paper, but once I head the whole thing I was less than enthusiastic. Not bad, but not the great lost power-pop group I thought they would be.Unlike the other two reviewers on this page, I had never heard Radio Stars before, or at least a full album by them. I vaguely recall hearing one of their songs back in the early '80s but even that didn't make a strong impression on me. So, if you were a fan back in the day, you might love this collection --- and with 4 CDs you get a bunch of music, both studio tracks and live ones. But to my ears this music hasn't aged that well, I head a handful of truly terrific songs, but watered down by a lot more mediocre material. Again, it's not bad, just not as life-affirming as I'd hoped. I also think it leans a bit more on the punk and even pub-rock side of things more than true power-pop, a genre which I really love.
