Non-toxic way to deal with mosquitos in standing water
During the warmer months, we have problems with mosquitos breeding in the bird bath and other standing water that we leave out for birds and small animals visiting our garden. Therefore, my attention was caught by this mosquito pond barrier from The Mosquito Company.Having done some research I found out that this non-toxic solution works by putting a very thin silicon barrier across the surface of the water. This works in two ways. Firstly, it reduces the surface tension of the water meaning that adult mosquitos can’t land on it to lay eggs and drown if they try. Secondly, the film prevents larvae and pupa already in the water from gaining access to oxygen as they must breach the surface of the water to breathe. This approach has been scientifically tested in the field and has been proven to work. Furthermore, it has been shown to be non-harmful to anything else drinking or living in the water. The nature of the silicon film is apparently such that it is very effective at filling around plants and other protrusions in the water and also reforms quickly when broken. As well as tackling mosquitos it apparently can also be used in the summer to help reduce water evaporation. The amount needed for smaller areas of water is minimal, just 1ml per square metre. Given this, it would’ve been useful had the clear cap been marked with a measurement scale. Unfortunately, it isn’t, so you probably will need a syringe to measure out smaller quantities. The upside is that a 100ml bottle should last a good long time, particularly as you only need to use it every four weeks.Unfortunately, I am unable to test the effectiveness of this product at this time of year but, given the studies that have been undertaken using similar products, I see no reason why it won’t work well.Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you found it useful.

it seems to have worked
Had tried previously adding pellets and things in to the water with little success. Have added this and appears to have done the job. For now anyway
