Willy Fog - Around The World: The Complete Series [DVD]

Yay! Willy Fog on DVD!
I loved this show as a child when it was shown on CBBC. When I saw Amazon was selling the whole collection, I ordered it instantly! Under the excuse that my 3-year-old son would love it, hehe. But you know... he does love it! A "hardened" Ben10 and Spiderman fan, but he's now mad about Willy Fog.Quality of the DVDs is fine; sometimes the audio is a bit weird (a bit quieter for a couple of minutes, or a bit tinny) but quality is good throughout. For some reason though, I remember the title song also being the lead-out song too, but it's not like that on these DVDs.What's even better than the sheer nostaligic factor is that it's not even dated. Not like He-Man for example, where you cringe at how dated and laughable it has become over the years.I definitely recommend this collection to anyone with children. As a youngster the show motivated me to read Jules Verne's book. Unlike modern children's shows, Willy Fog will also teach children stuff - like geography, how things were in the 19th Century, a little bit of foreign culture dare I say...

This is excellent material for children as there is a well-developed story ...
This is excellent material for children as there is a well-developed story based on a novel of course but I would believe they've done justice to that.Very watchable for all ages - my kids are 3, 8 and 11 - all boys and they loved the story and humour - only point that I would make that this story is about a gent. who 'placed a bet' on everything he had to prove he could make it round the world in 80 days and constantly made exorbitant expenditures to help achieve his aim but of course he could do that as a rich and noble gent of London society ie he didn't go into debt or make his family suffer. As he won he didn't have to face consequences of his 'gambling'. I do believe personally that gambling is a cardinal sin. However I loved this as a child and wouldn't hesitate to show it to my children as it's one of the worlds timeless classics.

Excellent Series
Myself and my husband were transported back to our youth. Also wanted to prove to our own children that "They don't may telly like they used to". We sat down and watched these programmes with our children who are Four and Six and they were absolutely blown away with the series. They loved the progress of Willy Fogs travels, learned about places around the world and loved the music - a talent and in places very beach boys stylee. Loved it and is just how I remember and no doubt will watch it all again soon !

The greatest nostalgic DVD since button moon!
This has transformed my life! Well maybe not that far, but it has reminded me and all my friends of how good children's tv used to be. A proper story, with good morals, a showcase of how Britain used to be, and exquisite use if the English language. When they stopped making programmes to this calibre, the youth of today all started speaking like a rapper. I'm now on a hunt to find all the greatest cartoons from the 80's and 90's so my children can have the same imaginative experience that we all got to enjoy. Vive la Rigadon!

Great release, but not too polished
It is great when an old show deserving an audience is rescued from Bootleg VHS Land with a proper DVD release. This is such a case, and I am quite grateful. I won't be reviewing the cartoon itself, IMDB exists for that reason. The show came out on TV in 1984, if I am not mistaken, and, despite looking better than most (japanese-produced) shows at the time, is still suffering from (occasionally mildly) improper camera placement, wrong lighting here and there, and occasional sound glitches. None of those kill the presentation, but are noticeable enough to show the age and budget. Par for the course for old TV shows. What makes me take away 1 star is the way the analogue tapes have been transferred to DVD. For the most part, the original signal has been accurately preserved, which is appreciated. But the (de)interlacing is inconsistent. You see, PAL DVDs are either 50i, 25p displayed as 50i (to work with CRT), or pure 25p (for modern displays, with digital flags for the player to split every frame into 2 fields, to, again, display on CRT). For the MOST part, each episode here is 25p, with no de-interlacing needed from the player. But certain episodes are encoded in the 25p>50i format, which is annoying, since I KNOW the original source is 25p! Why interlace to then de-interlace?? It's creating a problem so you can then solve it, for no reason. I suspect this has to do with a lazy job on the part of Revelation Films. You hear me, Revelation? You did a lazy job! ........... unless it's just my copy, but I doubt that. It's a shame for the interlacing issues. This release is so close to being great......... such a shame. I only hope someone does a better release. I believe it is not an impossible thing to wish for.

Brings back gooood memories
Really was holding my breath when this arrived. I expected I would be let down. (Oh my God how could I have watched this as a kid!) But that was not so, I was thoroughly impressed with it. It entertained me so many years ago and entertained me again. The quality of of the cartoon and story was excellent even for its time. I will be treating my niece and nephew to it. I know they will love it and will find Tico very funny!

Worth owning for posterity.
It has its flaws, but remains to this day the most faithful adaptation of Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days."I have recently re-watched the whole series including the second season, and it is a fun show i have not watched since childhood. If you like this, i would also advice looking up "Sandokan" produced by BRB international, who made this product.Happy watching!Sandokan: Volume 1 [DVD]Sandokan: Volume 2 [DVD]Sandokan: Volume 3 [DVD]

Wonderfull
Uno dei cartoni più belli di sempre. Peccato non ci sia la lingua italiana ma per collezioni va bene anche questo. Strepitose le sigle interne

Leider keine deutsche Tonspur

NO TRAE AUDIO NI SUBTITULOS EN CASTELLANO
ME HA PARECIDO BASTANTE RARO PERO NO TRAE AUDIO NI SUBTITULOS EN CASTELLANO A PESAR DE SER UNA SERIE ESPAÑOLA.SOLO TRAE UNA PISTA DE AUDIO Y ES EN INGLES, ES CURIOSO QUE LOS INGLESES NO RESPETEN LA V.O. DE ESTA SERIE, DE TODOS MODOS POR EL PRECIO QUE TIENE NO ES MALA COMPRA (UNOS 6 €).
