180G Vinyl LP featuring a selection of classic funk tracks by New Orleans' premier session players. The Meters were New Orleans' foremost instrumental band during the late 60s and Seventies. They played on numerous sessions for legendary producer Allen Toussaint, providing the backing for many of the stars with whom Toussaint worked including Lee Dorsey and Betty Harris. Revered and oft-sampled by the Hip Hop fraternity, the group were also a formidable recording outfit in their own right, scoring a string of significant hits for Toussaint's Josie label between 1969 and 1971;this collection includes all of their US Pop & R&B hits for the Josie label. Here Comes The Meter Man includes 'Sophisticated Cissy', 'Look-Ka Py Py' and 'Cissy Strut', a No.4 R&B hit which also featured in the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's 1997 blaxploitation homage Jackie Brown.

Good compilation and well worth having
Good compilation and well worth having....few tracks missing here that would have been good on the vinyl (funky miracle for e.g.). The sound quality isn't as bad as other reviews have suggested - it isn't as good as the individual vinyl albums but honestly, unless you're looking for it you won't notice. Enjoy!
