100% would recommend
Excellent purchase, it is so much more powerful than other makes/models and so easy to use. Fantastic on your lawn edges and does not struggle at all. Only comment I would make is it’s a heavy unit being the bigger model but doesn’t bother me. The black & decker went straight in the bin

Powerful strimmer
I have for several years been using a battery powered Bosch strimmer but wanted a more powerful mains powered strimmer with no worry of battery going flat halfway through the job. I have owned a lightweight flymo strimmer before which was mains powered but it used to struggle on heavy weeds and grass. The 500e strimmer purchased went together fairly easily. I watched the flymo’s video on flymo web site which also helped.I had a little problem fitting the main shaft into the upper handle and lower motor housing, it seemed very tight but eventually went together. The day after putting it together I put it to the test on a long stretch of grass and weeds which I have at the front of my house about 25 metres in all. The flymo did a great job. I did however have to stop several times as I found the flymo on off trigger difficult to keep a grip on for prolonged periods. Also this strimmer is heavy, much heavier than I thought it would be. Overall I am happy with it but think for some it would prove too heavy if using for long periods. In my opinion if flymo had made the handle easier to grip and made the on off switch a one finger trigger type switch I would have given it five stars. Overall a very good piece of garden equipment which hopefully will last for years.

Brilliant and Highly Recommended!
Brilliant and Highly Recommended!I was a bit nervous to purchase this following the prior reviews however, having bought this Electric grass Trimmer, I am extremely pleased! This maybe one of my favourite purchases for the garden yet.I have recommended this grass trimmer to a number of people for the following reasons;Clear and concise instructionsEasy to put together; the shield and cord are not attached during transport but very easy to do.The strimmer is self is auto-feeding which means the length of the cord is always the correct length (if not- the clear instructions tell you how to make it do it for itself). Saving me from having to mess with it every time. The length of the cable is long enough to cover most of the garden (10m cable, but I have a 60 foot + garden and this pretty much gets all over). The head swivels, meaning that I am able to trim the grass against the fence, then can switch to cut the edging of the grass, saving me from getting the long arm scissors out/ half-moon edger and doing this manually. It is very light weight and balanced weight, so it can be easily maneuverer around the garden without putting too much stress on your arms. There is a shield to prevent the grass spraying out everywhere plus a wheel to use for rotation, creating a consistent edge the specific distance from the wall/ edges. It is mains operatedThe wires are held across two moulded ‘hooks’ for storageNegatives:The auto-feed failed on one occasion, resulting in me manually feeding the dual line, but this is only once (I have had this over a year now and used it on lots of occasions still only one fail). The grass still can spray out even with the shield; wear long trousers to save little cuts on legs (from experience).Read the instructions on how to ‘feed’ the cord (basically switch it on/ off a couple of times until you hear a change in the sound).Overall; for the price a brilliant purchase. Saves time and gives a clean edge to all borders, light and easy to use. Lots of positives for this Grass Edge Trimmer.

Does the job but not user-friendly
At the most basic level, this Flymo Contour 500E strimmer did its job and helped me cut down the area of overgrown lawn I was worrying about. So that's good. However, I had a struggle putting it together (the instructions were very poor) and I found it really unwieldy & awkward to use. The power lever requires a pretty strong grip to keep it squeezed. The product comes in a conveniently compact box for delivery, but the down side of that is that you have to assemble the bits. There are instruction diagrams and (very limited) text descriptions, but there are errors in some of the explanations, for example the numbers identifying components in the text don't match the numbers on the diagrams. I'm moderately capable with this kind of thing, but it took me 15 minutes to put everything together and I'm still not confident that I fitted the strimming cord properly. The product came with a cassette of strimming cord in place in the machine, which is good, but I'm unsure whether it is fitted right, as the diagrams for that are really unclear. But it cut the grass and I still have both my eyes and all my digits, so I guess it's OK.Having said that, my arms really ache after using the strimmer for 20 minutes or so. It isn't really heavy, but it doesn't feel well balanced and it takes a real effort to keep the power lever pressed while manoeuvring the machine. I'm a middle aged man of average strength and it seemed like a really hard squeeze was required to keep the handle pressed to keep the motor running. So for me or my stronger, fitter friends this is ok to use, but I would not be recommending it to anyone who doesn't have reasonably strong arms and a good grip!Overall, it does the job but could be more user friendly and needs a better set of assembly instructions.

Works just as I'd hoped
Little bit fiddly to set up and work out the best way to use but all good after a few re-threading of the line
