Sommerfelds Easy Set Up Jig

Bought this with my Somerfeld's Tongue and Groove kit. Really makes setting the bits easy. I was able to complete my project in a fraction of the time it usually takes. If you buy any of Sommerfeld's bits, please get this with it.

I'll give this the full five stars even though it is not useful for me as I discovered. The advantage is for those who are using a single router table where you can swap bits without recalibrating. I use two router tables for the cope and profile cuts so this tool becomes irrelevant. I'm keeping it anyway in case I get a bit swapping situation in the future.

Great tool for doing joints

I have really become a fan of the Sommerfeld router bit sets and bought this jig expecting is to thrill me as all the other tools from them have. Reality is a bit different.I give it 4 stars rather than 3 for a critical reason - it covers the set up of a huge number of their bits. Competitors sell you plastic profile blocks that are usually for only 2 different thicknesses of wood and are unique to the specific bit. This jig covers multiple stock thickness in very small increments and a huge number of different bits. That makes this an absolute bargain compared to buy, storing, finding, and using the plastic profile blocks.Pros: This jig makes set up super easy for the bits (once you understand it), it was accurate and repeatable, covers a huge number of different bit set ups, adjusts in small increments for a huge range of material thickness, all in one deviceCons: Best instructions are an online video by Sommerfeld, included instructions and use are a bit complicated without practice (you have to keep track of dial rotation clicks and do the math to set it for material thickness which can get confusing even for an engineer), you need to refer to the single instruction page to see which bits require a special set up process which could be clearly color coded on the jig to indicate a special bit, the bit names on the jig are not painted like the other markers which make it really hard to read sometimes, limited to material 23/32 and up when 5/8 is a common stock size for the bits it is used to set upOnce you get the jig figured out, you wonder how you would work without it. It is not a simple as plastic set up blocks but less expensive and more flexible. I would definitely still buy it again even knowing that it is not as simple as it looked.

Excellent component of the Sommerfeld cabinet-making system. Allows you to reliably, consistently, and quickly set router bits to the correct height for shaping cabinet parts.

This only fits one or two of my bits, it is really made for Sommerfield's own bits, which is not clear on the site. A great idea, but only if you have their bits. There is a list of bits that fit on the Sommerfield site, make sure you check that first. This is an ingenious idea, but it is pretty much manufacturer centric. 3 stars because the necessary information is unclear on both Amazon and Sommerfield's site.

I watched the video's on YouTube about Sommerfields cabinet making and the jig was used very easyly, so I ordered it. It works just like it did on the video. Very easy and precise. Highly recommend, and I got GREAT care in the ordering and shipping of this jig. Thank you
