Cole and Mason Salt and Pepper Mill Tray, Acrylic

Highly recommend

Bizarrely overpriced for what it is, a simple acrylic tray, but it serves its purpose well. Speaking of which, its purpose is to serve as a stand or base to set a pair of salt and pepper mills on and collect the mess they would otherwise leave on a table or countertop. It's not meant as a tray to carry the mills. It's a good fit for the Derwent salt and pepper set as shown in the photo.

The Cole Mason tray holds my salt/pepper mills when not in use and contains any spills/debris, keeping my countertop clean.

Ok so this thing comes with a really annoying black sticker that just does NOT want to peel off - and some gunk removers are too harsh for acrylic. Thanks to an awesome recommendation I found on Youtube, I poured peanut oil over the sticker (you can use canola oil too). I let it sit for a couple hours, then pulled at an edge of the sticker and it peeled off cleanly! A little soap and hot water and it's good to go!

Perfect for any salt and pepper grinders. It will help collect the fall off.

Sometimes simplicity and minimalism work well as a design concept. Who needs an array of unnecessary features that inflate the price of an item without improving its basic functionality ? Simplicity however, should not be at the expense of functionality however.I ordered this to go with Cole & Mason mini grinder set as recommended on the website illustration and can report that : The tray is difficult to pick up with one hand because of a sloping rather than flush or concave side profile. The diameter of the cylindrical recesses that accommodate the mills are too large and the recesses too shallow with no raised perimeter rim to offset this deficiency so even if you managed to awkwardly lift the tray off the table, the grinders would likely slide off or topple over onto food or fragile glassware below as the tray is passed between guests. This tray is obviously designed to stay in one place but Cole & Mason don't bother to point this out. What about picnics on uneven ground ? My mini grinders remained upright to a 20% slope but then toppled over with the slightest jog so not recommended and the verdict for taller grinders with higher centre of gravity must surely be worse.Cole & Mason risk undermining their reputation for design excellence by marketing products like this and even reducing the price from the £6.69 I paid to it's current £3.50 does not improve it's value for money rating.The entire range of Cole & Mason range of grinders would benefit from holders that were attractive, durable and functional so let's hope that this badly designed slab of acrylic is swiftly replaced with something more in keeping with Cole & Mason's high standards.

This is a nice little tray for the Salt and Pepper grinders. It should be included for free really. It's a bit cheeky to charge for this considering the price of the grinders. But that said it is not stupidly priced and does look nice.This is completely unnecessary but a nice to have.So would I recommend or buy again, well I am 50/50 on this one. There is nothing wrong with it, but I wouldn't say you don't need it. I think this is totally a personal choice. It's good quality and looks nice.

Although this tray/stand is nicely designed and well made, the round holes designed to hold the same company's salt and pepper mills are way to large in diameter (see photo). Therefore carrying them to the table usually results in the mills falling onto the floor! I complained to the supplier who refunded the tray in full and allowed me to keep it! Great result for me, but just a point to bear in mind before you buy it.

Ordered two of these and both arrived scratched. Neither came in any retail packing, just the outer box from Amazon. No way would they last in a busy kitchen, they are not robust enough. The finish is not particularly good with the point where they are injection moulded, clearly visible. The branding is lost as it is tiny writing. Considering how good other Cole and Mason products are and the high quality of finish, these are really poor. Just save your money and wait until they bring out another product but in Stainless Steel (fingers crossed).

The price is definitely rather steep for such a simple item. But it certainly reduces scratches resulting from salt crystals falling out of the grinder onto the mahogany dining table top.
