Excellent publication…
This updated book is a boom to anyone interested in or wanting to do some design work (particularly DIY), as it explains, in laymen’s terms, all that is needed to be known for designing say, and extension or loft conversion, etc… and also has a load of information and tables ect that you never knew you would need but will at some time…altogether an excellent buy, and also would be great for students too…can’t recommend highly enough…

Still a good handbook
I have bought a few updated editions of this very good book in the past - The latest edition has been padded out & supplemented with lots of up to date info regarding changes in the way we practice Architecture, which is good, but at the expense of a few bits of information, which were useful.Although this is not of huge concern, as the edition is now much thicker than before page wise, so some things needed to be cut.The Section on conservation of fuel and power has been updated to show current U-values but only for limiting U-values for new fabric elements, it would have been useful to include Table 1.1 from ADL. Summary of notional dwelling specification for new dwellings. which is necessary for achieving the TER when performing SAP calcs - in particular it demonstrates the difference between what is the minimum model requirement when using this method to design a new house.Of course this information can be obtained by downloading the latest ADL from the government website. An example of how to perform Area weighted U-value calcs would be useful for students & junior technicians, when getting extensions to dwellings to comply, when the opening to floor ratio is larger than the standard allowance approach. My main concern & reason for losing a star is the print quality & definition is not as clear nor sharp as previous editions, this is an issue due to the small page size & therefore certain figures and diagrams are hard to read without a magnifying glass - we are not all of student age with bionic eyesight! It's still a very comprehensive and useful hand book though and well worth having.

Useless for use in the United States
This book is based on Europe standards. Not sure why that isn’t called out in the description. Very deceiving.
