A finishing trowel is a tool used to smooth mortar or plaster. The blade has a very flat tool to which a curved handle is attached. This blade is usually rectangular with very sharp corners and edges that are somewhat sharp. It is used by placing the blade firmly against the surface to be picked, then moving the paddle in a straight line.

Trowel worked fine for spreading thinset for wall tile application. Soft grip probably more comfortable than wood.
