Polaris: A thrilling submarine adventure (John Winton Cold War Thrillers)

This is a story about a naval officer’s disillusionment with the nuclear side of his job. It’s very real and lifelike.Don’t read it if you want to be cheered up.

An easy read, like other John Winton novels, but at the end of it all I found it a little fanciful.

Definitely Winton's best novel. Most military fiction is event oriented; his are more character-driven and none more than this. It's a stirring tale about a man who stands up for his beliefs against an establishment and all his peers. There's no way to be more courageous than that.
