Misery Obscura: The Photography of Eerie Von (1981-2009) Review: Cool Book - Great read on the Misfits etc etc. Lots of pictures , of course. I read the entire thing in a day but I'm a big fan . Surprised to hear that Eerie would have stayed in the band if Glenn just said something. After they split up ...I lost interest in Danzig for the most part. If you're a fan ... just go ahead and buy it. I've thought of giving a local fan a copy. I was shopping in my Misfits shirt and met a huge fan... he's got the tattoos and everything. They would be shocked to get a copy but fans of the band usually are not casual fans. 🙂 I know Cliff Burton wasn't casual about his love of the music. In fact , it's hard to think of a group more loved. The photography is fantastic. Cool that he was always taking pictures of people around the band... other bands too. He has a real good eye for setting up scenes. Probably my favorites are the ones of just a bass and jacket. What a scene to fall into to as a photographer. Other bands...they just aren't that cool. 🙂 I'm also a fan of Samhain and it was nice to see that. That cool scene with the camp fire ! I had totally forgotten that... besides....it was really little on a cassette tape. Not anymore...now we got a nice sized book to look at. Pretty cool buy for the collection. Definitely want to hide it or buy it as a fiendish gift, as it will probably get stolen. There really are no casual Misfits or Samhain fans. Which , this book is part of that legacy...a legacy of photography. * I was also a big Danzig fan too but I bought all the magazines of that time period which featured the band grimly representing 🙂 Review: An Absolute Must-Have For Fans of Danzig - This book is excellent. It is high quality and full of rare pictures, notes, and info. As a long-time Danzig/Samhain/Misfits fan, I'm thrilled that Eerie put out this collection of his photos taken over the years. Essential!

Misery Perfecta
This is indisputably the coolest book I own or have ever seen. A beautiful hardcover with glossy pages chockful of Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig pics and accompanying stories. Really, for a fan of any of these three bands or all of them, this book is just a treasure. It's not just a collection of pics you've seen, but also one's you haven't with many great, intimate moments in the studio and on tour. There's a great one of Glenn with his head down on the piano, pictures from their trip to Scotland, another great one of a bottle of fake Samhain blood, pictures all the way back to Lodi, New Jersey. Amazing. I'm just kinda out of words to tell you how much I love this book.

Fiend Club Must-Have
The book's amazing, and at $20, the hardcover is a total steal. Eerie's face is on the cover, and it has a little bit of his post-Danzig material toward the end -- but mostly it's an essential chronicle of the Danzig bands, starting when Eerie was a high school classmate of [Misfits guitarist] Doyle, all the way through the Danzig III cycle. For Fiends, it's must-have. As a photographer, Eerie's a real talent. The Misfits pics will give you goosebumps. They're mostly full-band photo shoots, but he includes some candid backstage shots and pics of Doyle in high school football gear. From the Samhain and Danzig eras, he has a couple great pictures of Danzig and crew at Elvis' grave. Von also includes some classic pictures and outtakes from other sessions that longtime fans will recognize. From the Danzig era, you get in-the-studio pics with Rick Rubin. Von even uses a few pictures from the road, when Jesse James -- yes, that Jesse James -- was head of security. Cameos include the Metallica guys. There isn't much text, but keep in mind that it's a photography book. There is reading material, though. He doesn't dish any real dirt, but most of the photos have captions, and there are a few medium-length text interludes. It's practically a Fiend Club year book.

The Ultimate Journey
Finally got my hands on this and I wasn’t disappointed! In fact, it was way more than I expected. I grew up in NJ and my older cousins were massive Misfits fans and I would always sneak in their room under a cloud of 1983 skunk and a lingering smell of Beck’s and Heineken’s. I then made my way to Samhain when I was in 6th grade (November Coming Fire is still my all-time favorite) and eventually to Danzig (where, after graduating High School in 1992), I found myself in Philly on a cold December night at the TLA watching Kyuss open up for Danzig. Nothing short of amazing. This book is perfect for all of us who found solace in these three bands and it actually has two archives from two additional Danzig shows I was at- April ‘94 at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, Nj and Allentown, Pa in ‘94 (Suicidal Tendencies, Danzig, Metallica). Eerie really put together an amazing book. He also was always one of my favorites in Samhain-Danzig just on appearance alone. A must, must have! Fangs for the memories 🖤

Perfect for the Misfits/Samhain/Danzig fan
Great old pictures and stories from all the old days of The Misfits, Samhain and Danzig. I’ve seen a few of these pics before but it’s a great collection and really cool to get the stories that went along with each set. Eerie Von was there from the beginning of the journey and was the go-to photographer for a bunch of Misfits’ performances and promos. It’s not a thick book but it’s way taller than I expected. Nice, glossy hardcover and packed full of photos. If you’re a fan of any of these bands, this book is well worth having on your shelf or coffee table.

Thanks Eerie!
