This book is perfect for anyone recovering from breast cancer but could also be relatable to any cancer recovery generally. It is so helpful for navigating forward.Sara’s debut book ‘Ticking off Breast Cancer’ was the first book I bought as I embarked on my journey and it was so absolutely brilliant .Her Instagram and website is also an excellent source of information and inspiration. She’s so kind and reaches out to you if she can and will also give you a chance, if the opportunity arises, to have a voice yourself.This book however, is just in a league of its own because what many people don’t know but find out when main treatments come to a close, is there is absolutely minimal help afterwards. Your mental health suffers greatly as you try to make sense and process what you’ve just been through.You literally felt like you’ve been hit by a truck and don’t know how to rebuild yourself, your life and your family.Sara’s no nonsense , sensible, articulate and motivating thoughts with the support of several top medical professionals sets you on the road you so desperately want to be back on; normality !From the word go her analogy of it being like Lego bricks and you have to rebuild is so true. The chapters on loneliness and grief were so helpful to me personally.Through my diagnosis I have lost the career I adored, my independence, my social interactions and the physical ability to do things I once enjoyed. These are the hidden things that nobody knows. People think a cancer diagnosis is cured with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy but so often it’s not the case and you are left with extra ‘health friends’ to adapt to.Sara covers each topic with personal knowledge, superb professional advice, loving care and a desire to ensure nobody feels alone.Fear, traumatic reminders, loss of confidence in yourself and your body are carefully and sensitively discussed and give you great advice on how you can help yourself and if not who and what can.I’d highly recommend this book to any patient and their family if you’re in the club nobody wants to be in.It really is one wonderful huge hug in a book form. This book came out at a perfect time for me, just a month before my treatment ended. Before reading it I was full of dread about the impending feeling of doom that I kept reading about in various articles. What next? Recurrence? Well-being? Confidence? But having this book is like having a new best friend. I take it everywhere with me, from room to room, house to house, hospital to hospital. There is nothing you can’t find in this book. It’s clear and empathetic voice leaps off the page and I’ve gained so many practical tips and it’s dispelled so many scary myths. I cannot reiterate enough how much this book has become the most wonderful non human lifeline for me.When I first got it I was quite intimidated by it despite the beautiful cover. More so because the thought of finishing a book seemed inconceivable to me because of how I was feeling. So I decided to pick it up and randomly select a page, then put a sticky tab where I’d read something or found something particularly useful that I could easily find again. I hope the book gives you as much comfort as it has for me.

I have recently finished reading Sara Linage's handbook on recovery after breast cancer. Following a diagnosis in October 2021 and finishing treatment in December 2022, reading this made me feel so much better. You expect to bounce right back after treatment but that's rarely the case - you do in some aspects and not others and that differs from person to person. Knowing there are others who will completely get where you are was superbly comforting - it's something you can't explain to friends and family so easily. A great book for those coming out the other side of treatment and facing the tension between your internal feelings and the expectations of others.

When I finished chemotherapy and had my mastectomy I thought I’d be feeling on top of the world - I had beat breast cancer. But there’s an unexpected come done and I just felt so depressed and really struggled to understand this or articulate it. When I read this book, every chapter was completely relatable and I felt I had the support I needed. It really helped me explain my feelings to my friends and family. I would recommend this book to anyone who has just come out of active treatment.

This book is a lifeline for me, such helpful tips and so thoughtfully written, a real help to me after my recent breast cancer diagnosis and surgery, so many things written in this book resonated with me, I read it and think to myself “that’s exactly how I feel!” So refreshing and comforting.

I've just got over breast cancer thankfully. I started reading this and it made me feel worse. My getting better is not reading about it but getting on with my life and doing nice things. It was recommended to me by someone who it helped and I'm sure it will be right for others but not me
