Scales Plus!: for Violin

Very good resource for knowledge of scales
I purchased this book after a recommendation from my violin teacher after I had been playing for approximately 2 years. As of now, I've been playing the violin for about 4 years (and have a new teacher, so I don't use this book as much as I used to), and this book gets the job done in terms of scale practicing. When I first started, I used the two-octave scales, now I use the three-octave scales for practice. Each two-octave scale takes up about two pages with exercises, arpeggios and the actual scale (so you really become acquainted with the scales) and offers some extra practice suggestions. The three-octave scales only take up one page per key and have fewer exercises which mostly have to do with slurs, bow or rhythm changes, but still offer suggestions for practice. At the end, there are (common) melodic minor and (common) 3-octave major and minor arpeggios, and there are extra shifting exercises near the middle of the book.Overall, I enjoy this book and has really helped me become more acquainted with scales. It has content for beginner-ish students and more advanced content for the corresponding student. Although I don't use it a lot, I find it a good book to have in my repertoire.

Develops shifting ability in 1st through 6th position. There are 6-duets in: 5ths, 4ths, M3rds, M2nds, plus. Focus keys are: G, A, B-flat, C, D, E, E-flat, F, A-flat, B, D-flat. I would purchase from seller again.

Pretty Good
This book is a very cool mix of scales and "common patterns" that are good finger exercises. The exercises are arranged by key, beginning with easy keys and gradually increasing in difficulty. Does not have arpeggios, double stops or chromatics though. For that you have to get the RCM books.

Scales and Positions
I have used this book for years. It is excellent for helping teach positions, as well as key signatures. I love this book.

Very nice book. If you already have a scale book you are familiar with...keep using it. If you do not have one...this one would be a good choice. My private instructor prefers Hrimaly Scale-Studies For the Violin.
