Backcountry Access B-1 Extendable Shovel

This shovel has a solid feel with a reasonable extension for shoveling snow for camping tasks. There are lighter options but this keeps my hands dry with minimal bending over compared to a scoop style. It doubles as a solid snow anchor for a windward side of your shelter if needed. The shovel size is adequate for camp prep without being to large for getting snow into a a 2L pot for melting. My research at the time show this to be the best balance of light weight and handle length in the smaller blade sizes. I see no reason to look for another option anytime in the future.

It's light enough, and sturdy enough. There are lighter shovels out there, but we're talking a few ounces of a difference. I like the the shaft is elliptical in shape; it's a foolproof design made for quick assembly. Goes without saying that I hope to never use it in a real rescue.

This snow shovel is great. packs small and easy to carry. You can maybe find one lighter but not by much.
