A lovely time piece.
You can pay thousands for an automatic. I have a Tag Heuer SEL I bought years ago, I almost bought a Rolex Submariner but decided to wait... wish I'd bought it now as such funds are no longer at my disposal! I've been looking for a 'reasonably priced' automatic for a few months. I narrowed down the choices to the Citizen NY0040-09E or the Seiko SKX007K, weighing up the pros and cons of each. Eventually I decided on the NY0040-09E as I preferred the look of the dial and I like the crown being at the 8 o'clock position as the conventional position (at 3 o'clock), can lead to the crown digging into your wrist/hand. The watch keeps good time, it can gain/lose seconds each day. There is a way you can lie the watch down and leave it over night to either speed up or decrease the speed. I found that out on a website somewhere but have lost the link now sorry! Just google it. The Bezel is unidirectional (it only turns one way), and turns without any resistance. Some may not like that, they may want a little more resistance but I'm happy with it. For those unaware, a 'unidirectional bezel' is used when diving to keep an eye on dive time. It is unidirectional to ensure that if you knock the bezel and it turns (whilst diving), all that will happen is it will 'appear' that you have less 'air time' left than you actually do have. So you'll surface with enough air in your tank. The dial is a deep black which I like. If I were to pick a negative of the dial it would be that the chrome surrounding the lume at each hour position is a bit too shiny for my liking but that's a personal thing. The rubber strap lends a certain rugged, work like quality to the time piece. I like that but it's also a slight negative (again, this is a personal view). It's such a beautiful dial that I feel it deserves something a little more flattering. Having searched the internet I found some photos of the NY0040-09E on a stainless steel bracelet. I later found out that the bracelet was an original made by citizen (model number 59-J0609), but only supplied to certain countries. The bracelet is brushed stainless steel, has a lockable clasp and has an extending ratchet (this is used when attaching the watch to your wrist with a wetsuit on). I immediately knew that was the bracelet I wanted my citizen automatic on (see link below for a photo of the watch on the original bracelet. Hopefully amazon will allow the link). I think you'll agree, the bracelet looks great in either a sports setting or business. However, trying to obtain the bracelet led me a merry dance! I decided the best bet would be to contact Citizen UK to try and source the bracelet. They informed me that unfortunately the bracelet was no longer available as it was discontinued! They did suggest a different bracelet that would fit but I didn't like the look of it, it didn't have the ratchet and it didn't bear any resemblance to the original 59-J0609. Disheartened, I decided to have a look around for similar looking bracelet. There are a few bracelets available but the rounded end links need to be right for the bracelet to fit with the watch. Eventually however, I found a watch strap dealer on ebay, based in California, selling the 59-J0609! Being as this was ebay I was worried that perhaps it could be a rip-off or such (not that I could really see anyone bothering to rip-off a Citizen watch strap!). So I got back onto Citizen UK. They then informed me that the bracelet may well be available in the US and... if I wanted to purchase one, they could source one from their Far East suppliers! So I went from being informed that the bracelet was discontinued and therefore no longer available, to we can get you one! The issue then however was time. They couldn't get one from the Far East until August! So I decided to purchase from the Californian dealer. The cost is around £35. Not a price a really wanted to pay for a watch strap but it's almost exactly the same price I was quoted for the suggested 'alternative' bracelet so I convinced myself to go for it. I have literally just made payment for it so it won't be here for a while. Anyway, that's all from me. I hope some of what I have had to say helps others make a decision on purchasing either way. I can't wait to get the stainless steel bracelet on mine! :) All the best watch fans. http://i49.tinypic.com/20k3m2v.jpg

only recently purchased
I bought the citizens 200m divers watch because I had always wanted a diver style watch, even though I don't dive. I had looked at Omega Seamaster but felt I couldn't justify paying all that money for a watch. The choice then came down to the Citzen or the Seiko 007 divers watch. I was wanting a watch with a bracelet and will probably buy one for this at some point but for the moment I'm quite happy with the rubber strap that came with the watch. I chose the Citizen over the Seiko because the supplier that was selling the Seiko was temporarily out of stock when I was about to purchase and I'd also read reviews that the Seiko had a 'taller' profile than the Citizen and as I don't have massive wrists wanted something a little less in your face. The citizen is a perfect size for me and doesn't look like a kitchen clock sitting on my wrists but is still imposing enough to look good. I have only had it for about 10 days now and I'm very happy with it. It is a solid enough construction and feels really well built. The movement is nice to watch and second hand sweeps around the face with constant precision. The uni-directional bezel has a solid click action and isn't too loose. The luminous 'dots' on the hands and hour markings are big and bright enough when in a darkened room, so I'm assuming they will be even better for someone who is using it for diving. Watch was easy to set and screw down crown worked a treat. I am very happy with this watch and would recommend it anyone who wants to buy a quality divers watch without breaking the bank

A Classic Timepiece
I've been after this watch for quite some time to add to my growing collection of Citizen watches. I was finally able to obtain one and at a great price! I already own another Promaster Diver, which in many ways is the modern interpretation of this watch with an Eco Drive movement, 300m water resistance and a domed crystal. The NY0040 is an absolute classic with a great history having been used by the Italian Marina Militare and the forebear of all the Promaster divers that followed. I was surprised by the size of the piece, especially compared to my other diver. It wears much smaller than the dimensions might suggest. That's fine for me as I have skinny wrists but definitely significantly smaller than my other diver. The finishing on the case is fantastic with nice transitions between polished and brushed surfaces. The case shape is perfect too and does not dig in when wearing. The dial is a lovely Inky gloss black which almost has the effect that the indices are floating, very nice. The movement I have in mine is the Miyota 8004 so hacking and hand-winding, which I appreciate. All in all a very nice timepiece and a must for all watch nerds. Recommended.

This little gem of a watch is probably one of the best bang for buck watches you can find. It has a hand winding and hacking movement with the original style face. I am on the smaller side of wrists yet it wears amazing thanks to the lug to lug. The seller shipped the watch almost immediately and had it on my wrist in less than a weeks time . Overall excellent watch, excellent seller
