Amazing stuff
Bought this stuff by accident as a store cupboard item - expecting it to be chicken stock - as in actually from chickens. Just to point out - I religiously make stock the old fashioned way from roasted bones and freeze it for use later. I know my stock, I'm a fairly experienced cook, I know what I am talking about with respect to flavour profiles and I am not vegan! It's always handy to have some stock powder around just in case - especially with CV19. I was really annoyed with myself for buying this as it's a vegan product I think. It sat around for a while. The other day I tried it. I can't get my head around how this stuff - which has absolutely no chicken in it what so ever - tastes more like chicken than any brand of stock powder or cube that supposedly does contain chicken. Further than that - it actually tastes fairly comparable to the umami that you get off chicken skin itself.Anyway - it's a wonder product and it will now become my go-to for adding umami to things and back up for chicken stock needs. I could honestly give up meat as long as I had a supply of this stuff I think.Haven't tried the beef version of this product yet but looking forward to it.

Massel's lovely chicken flavour stock.
I usually use knorrs vegetable bouillion gel cubes and marigold vegan bouillion powder but I have been waiting for something like this for a long time, I try to follow a plant based diet. However sometimes I miss chicken and beef flavourings, but do not want to cause unnecessary harm to animals or eat them. The Massel brand is awesome they arrived today, chicken and beef flavourings. I tasted a little of each and they remind me of beef and chicken soup/broth flavour, without the meat. I can use them in casseroles/soups to flavour seitan, tofu soya etc.... I have a lot of ideas. Cannot wait to try it, but I have purchased a few more just in case for some reason they stop making them or selling them here.Oh and no MSG.Marlene

Very good stock which has a better flavour than any supermarket/branded vegetable stock
I held back on writing a review for this for a good three months because my very initial impressions weren't great. I expected to be blown away by this stock, and initially I wasn't.It's only been since I started to incorporate it into more and more of my cooking that I've been able to appreciate the flavour when compared to the bog standard vegetable stock cubes I usually use.It really does produce a better flavour. Most vegetable stock cubes seem to be overwhelming in either their herbiness or their celery flavours. This stock is just so well balanced and it adds a great depth to dishes.I really can't tell you whether it really does taste beefy because I haven't eaten beef for nearly thirty years - and I don't think I'd be too keen on this stock if it had some kind of (to me) alien meaty flavour. But I can tell you that it does take my cooking to a higher level. Seitan tastes amazing with a spoon of this added into the recipe. It 'tasties up' stir fry amazingly well. And adds a lovely dimension to chilli and other dishes.A small tub does go a long way, so even though it seems expensive, I've used it an awful lot and I yet still have a little bit left. It's probably time to reorder now though, which means I really do like it!I'm contemplating trying the 'chicken' flavour now.

Mighty Massel
The tin is small but mighty. Just a tiny bit on the end of your pinky as a taste test is enough to blow your socks off with flavour. The other reviews mentioning how powerful the flavour is was spot on. Salty but most stocks are, so that's to expected and generally desirable in my kitchen. It will be used in seitan, soups and stews. It's exactly what I've been looking for for years.

I love it and it is so tasty
I was unsure about this product as I am a vegan but having been told about this and it not having any meat products it in I thought I would give it a try. I love it and it is so tasty. I am certainly recommending it to my meat eater friends as well as my vegan ones.

so so tasty!
My diet is now 100% vegan, I don't miss eating meat at all but I was looking for some different bouillon with a more meaty flavour than the vegetable one i normally use. This is super tasty, and you don't need to use a lot to give a satisfying edge to your cooking. It is quite pricey for the size, but you can use sparingly so well worth a try

Really surprised at taste.
Bought this for a soup recipe that required chicken bouillon to be added, I ordered the Massel product not realising it was 100% vegetarian and was a bit wary as to the taste. To be honest the taste is excellent and having just used it again in a leek soup the result has been stunning.I can honestly say that I will be ordering this again.

Good product
I saw Massel stock mentioned in a recipe I was making for German style roast pork so had a google as I’d never heard of it. Obviously I’m not a vegan but despite the cost I bought it after reading one of the reviews on here saying it tasted more of chicken than stock cubes containing actual chicken. Anyway, I really like it. I find other stock cubes like kalllo or knorr are ok but they add other spices/garlic which doesn’t always go well with the dish I’m cooking. However the Massel stock gives that chicken-y oomph without all those extra flavourings. It went very well in my Chinese chicken & sweetcorn soup. Word of caution, it’s fairly salty so only add it gradually. I only wish I’d discovered it earlier when I was regularly cooking for a vegetarian!
