Gets the job done
I actually ordered this for my Sony A7 full frame knowing that I could use it in the APS-C mode. All functions work properly and it's a nice lens. I find it a bit soft at the telephoto end, even stopped down, and I've noticed that focus is slow (or doesn't work) in low or even dim light. It also seems to indicate that it got a focus lock at distances just inside the minimum focusing distance, meaning you think you got focus but you really didn't. So I've learned to step back just a bit when shooting macro shots. All in all, a decent purchase and one that gives the A7 fantastic range. If I want great range at the expense of a few pixels, I can use this lens. If I want to go full frame, I put on another lens. Best of both worlds. Decent for the price, so 3 stars.

Great lens
This lens is very sharp. The vibration compensation works very well. I'm very happy with this lens. I use it most of the time with my camera.Update 7/19/2014This is my go-to lens. It has been used on these Sony Alpha Mirrorless Interchangable-Lens Cameras: NEX-5R, NEX-6, NEX-7, A6000 (ILCE-6000).I've owned it for 16 months and have no complaints whatsoever. If you look at my photos on flickr.com <slash> photos <slash> duanemoore you'll see that most of my photos over that time have been taken with this lens. I think the sharpness is good enough considering the flexibility of the 11:1 zoom. Optical stabilization/vibration reduction works exceedingly well. Highly recommended!

Could be better. . .
I picked the Tamron lens after renting it and the Sony OSS to try out. I ended up choosing the Tamron. For me the major reason was the faster automatic focusing. When turned on you can actually see it working through the lens. You can also see the VC working. Others who shoot video may want to use the "Sony's OSS lens" because of the slower focusing. Image quality is just as good if not better than the "named" brand. The smaller diameter is much appreciated to keep the compact size. This being an "all in one" zoom you do suffer from Chromatic Aberrations at the long & short end of the zoom. But it can be managed with good photo processing software. Distortion is also manageable and is not as bad as I had thought. Night shooting is a little challenge with this lens unless you're in "Manual" it does take a couple seconds to track. But it's still faster than the "named" brand (to me anyway). The only drawback was that the price was nearly the same as the Sony version. But, for what it does for me I am a happy camper.
