Q: Are the lids and straws made of plastic and if so, are they BPA free/non toxic?

yes, it is part of the lid assembly.

Q: how long the hot water stays hot? thinking to use for warm water as well!

I've never used anything hot but it's vacuumed sealed so I'd imagine a very long time. I use it for cold and it's kept things cold for twelve plus hours.

Q: what size would suit a cycle bottle holder?

I bought the 950 ml and it is too wide for the cup holder in my Mini. I’m keeping it because it was ideal for the beach but I’m going to purchase a smaller size for the car. Hope this helps.

Q: Does the 'straw cap' with the spout still work if you don't have the internal plastic straw attached

No it doesn’t. Probably why they provide the two different option’s which I think is good value.
