Is this a true 5 pound / gallon tank? Also, are these demonsion the outside deminsions and accurate? + I have the camp chef oven-best hose to connect

Here is where people get confused. A 5 lb tank holds a little over 1 gal of propane. Your standard BBQ tank is a 20 lb tank holding 5 gal of propane. The connection should work fine with any hose that will connect to a BBQ, camp stove etc. I have used them for years for both.

Can this be stored on its side?

Regarding forklifts. Motor fuel tanks use a dip tube that allows the *liquid* propane to run to the motor where it is used to power the vehicle. BBQ and other propane tanks have a valve at the top that allows propane *gas* to go out the tube for combustion at the BBQ or whatever. The tank has liquid at its lowest points and gas is all at the highest points. There must be gas (not liquid) present at the level of the valve. Using a standard propane tank for a standard use like a BBQ, gas fire pit, gas stove, etc requires the tank to be stored upright so the gas goes out the tube to the appliance. These cylinders also have a pressure relief valve on the top. If the tank is overheated and is at risk of rupturing the valve will open to release some gas. This safety feature can be compromised if the tank is not stored upright.

What is the diameter of the ring on the bottom of the tank? Trying to replace current tanks, which have a ring diameter of ~ 6 1/2".

The diameter of the bottom ring is exactly 6 1/2".

Why is cheaper 5lbs tank with gauge is better quality without gauge? Thank you

I will go out on a limb and without research, I will throw in my 2cents. First the IMHO the gauge does not improve tank quality. Only saleability. Gauges read pressure and not actual liquid content and will differ depending on temperature. Quality. All tanks are all built to a DOT standard which probably specs the steel type and thickness, welding, testing and internal parts as per the DOT CODE stamped into the collar. Tanks can cost less depending where the steel is sourced, labor, parts and paint but, it has to meet the DOT specifications. Hope my ramblings help a bit.
