Great expectations one of the best films I have ever seen

Forgotten gem.

I get rather tired of people who complain that the plots in filmed productions do not faithfully follow the details of books on which they are "loosely" based, as i prefer to judge films on their own merits. However, to each his/her own.As such, I rather enjoyed this production, particularly the acting of Gwyneth Paltrow, who performed convincingly, and very well indeed.Ethan Hawke, on the other hand came through as rather simple minded, and lacking direction.Those kisses at the water fountain were a really neat touch, and for me, made it well worth a four star rating.

This movie is one the very best I have seen - stunningly made with great performances and superb writing.

Beautiful. More romantic than Titanic in my opinion. A lovely story. Ethan and Gwyneth were both brilliant. Of course Mr Di Niro was a brilliant acting craftsman as always. Deserved and deserves way more recognition. The soundtrack is stunning, too.

Admired the re-creation of a classic movie in a more modern US

Beautiful and epic movie.

I enjoy watching this film. Simple as that. Great Expectations is one of my favourite books and I enjoy the liberties taken with it here but I watch this film for its own sake. The visuals are beautiful, the soundtrack is great (and worth purchasing, I think) and the actors plunge right in. Ethan Hawke is a knockout, Chris Cooper is a perfect "Joe", and Anne Bancroft brings the house down every time she's on screen. Take your purist hat off and enjoy!
