Temper Expectations
First off, yes this thing is slow. You will experience lag opening/closing apps, fullscreening a YT video, opening files, etc. Renewed flagship Android tablets will absolutely beat this in terms of internal specs, and most of the Google Play apps are meant for phones or tablets anyway. Also, you will be hard pressed to find an 11.6" Chromebook that has more than 4 GB of RAM (which would vastly improve performance) unless you want a bulky uglier one. I like to present cons first in case people need to spot dealbreaker issues. What do you get with this though? A pretty light machine that can do all the basics you need it to with exceptional battery life and, so far, hardly any crashes if any at all. This will write documents, be decent at homework, and browse the web. Playing media is somewhat of a struggle, as it takes a few seconds to switch to or out of fullscreen. Once you have the video open it will play it flawlessly. Plus, it looks nice. Mine has a scratch on the outside of the case, but I've not noticed any damage. The battery health is also reported to be 96%, so the one I got is practically brand new. it also came with a 64 GB microSD card, which is nice; I won't be using it since I have a 2 TB one, but that puts the total storage capacity of this unit out of the box at 128 GB.(As a general drawback to all Chromebooks at the time of this review, they cannot encrypt external media; internal storage is encrypted and secure, so sensitive work documents, personal info, homework etc., which don't take much memory, can be stored there. However, if you have any 'embarrassing' pics or vids of yourself, be warned that storing it on a microSD card is not the best option with this.)I do have a flagship Android tablet that I bought a keyboard case for, and opening it up for a laptop experience is definitely more work than simply being able to open this and adjust the angle- maybe I bought a bad tablet case, so who knows. This also looks better than most chonky Chromebooks or tablets inside a case, and it's small enough to fit in a compact bag; the portability is great. As far as Chromebooks go, it seems to be a sacrifice in aesthetics and size to have better specs (i.e. more RAM). I do not want to lug around a 14" or 15.6" Chromebook just to have 8 - 16 GB of RAM and a seamless UX, so I can deal with the slowness that this one has. In the future, I hope we can have better specs packed into a small and aesthetically pleasing form factor for the Chromebook niche.Overall, this is amazing for the price. It's compact, elegant, and will get your basic work done at the end of the day. If you'd rather have raw power in a tablet and don't even care about a hardware keyboard, absolutely get a renewed flagship tablet or iPad. They will run native apps much easier and be less frustrating to use. However if you just want the bare minimum laptop experience to be able to get work or writing done and that's easy to carry around, this is it.
