So stoked to finally get the special edition dvd of this film, promptly delivery and in excellent condition

Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) stars as Officer Jack Traven, a professional police officer who is caught up in a deadly game with Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper). The plot to keeps you guessing and engaged with character situations essential.Hopper's character is marvellous. One of the best villains I have seen, Howard Payne is in control and a genius at causing problems for the public and police force as he demands money for his trouble.Keanu Reeves also portrays his Officer exceptionally well, portraying him as very professional and organised and adventurous. The relationship between Traven and Payne makes the film even more engaging and exciting as it becomes very personal.It's the suspense which makes this film. As the bus speeds around the city it faces many obstacles in order to get through unscathed and when unbelievable circumstances arise it's up to Traven and the passengers to tackle.When certain scenes have featured you may question the realism of the event and I myself have a few views about that, but the bottom line is that this is a high paced energetic thriller with stunning effects, plot, scenarios, and acting and is not to be missed.a must watch

Speed is a fun action packed ridiculous 90's action movie which propelled Keanu Reeves as a bonafide action star, his only entry into the action genre was 1991 surfing bank robbers Point Break with the late Patrick Swayze. While Keanu will never any oscars and is really an actor - he is a movie star and displays his limited range very well with pure gusto. As one of Sandra Bullock early movies this movie holds up very well in comparison to other 90's Die Hard style flicks - of which there were many following the success of that film. Fox the studio that made Die Hard had been very against doing a Die Hard style movie, but after seeing the success that rival competitors had they bit the bullet and took the shot. The end result is a fun action packed movie, while dumb and stupid entertains you none the less. It may have helped somewhat that they had Die Hard Cinematographer Jan De Bont make his directorial debut with this movie. The action and cinematography is nothing short of spectacular and is presented really well on this definative DVD with crystal clear picture. Keanu wisely passed on the sequel and it is too bad De Bont and Bullock could recreate the fun tense aspect of this movie again. 5 star movie for sheer entertainment you can't beat, up there with Lethal Weapon, Commando and Cobra.

Arrived promptly (sooner than the estimate); nice, clean copy. Picture and sound good. No real extras (apart from the theater trailer) but for the price, I wasn't overly fussed.I know people whine about Keanu Reeves being wooden, but I actually think that this is a very good film of its genre. He portrays his character well in both this film and the thingy presidents one with Patrick Swayze. And, let's face it - it's a chase movie with lots of explosions. What do you really want? At least he doesn't sound like he's reading idiot boards off-shot (like many actors in action movies do). And I bought the film for myself, so apart from the disc picture and sound quality (and a whinge about extras) I'm not going to say the film's rubbish. It was actually, I think, the first time I'd seen it in full, from start to finish. So result, I think.

I found this 111 min REGION B/2 DVD very entertaining. It had everything, tension, car chases, twists and turns, non-stop action, excitement, accidents, thrills, romance, stunts, etc. etc. etc. Some parents may find some scenes frightening for young children, plus some bad language is included.Keanu Reeve is portrait as Jack Traven an L.A.P.D. SWAT team specialist who is sent to defuse a bomb that a revenge-driven extortionist (Dennis Hopper) has planted on a bus. But until he does, Jack and one of the bus passengers (Sandra Bullock) must keep the bus speeding through the street of Los Angeles at more than 50 mph - or the bomb will explode. Will he succeed and if so at what cost?

I am watching this film and the only problem with it is that all these people are on a bus driven by Sandra Bullock and the bus has a bomb on it, put there by Dennis Hopper and I find it not very good that everyone by rights is panicking that there is a bomb that is likely to explode any minute, but Sandra Bullock is not panicking. She looks like she is on a day out and talking to Keanu Reeves about what he should be calling her like instead of him calling her mam, he should use her name. She is very calm considering there is a bomb. So she spoils the film. Otherwise it is very good. Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and all the passengers on the bus are really good but I think they should have replaced Sandra Bullock.

You cannot buy the first instalment with having the second!! On top of which the first and the second are equally exciting! Sandra Bullock at her best!

Howard Payne, terroriste psychopathe, policier à la retraite, prend en otage un ascenseur dans un immeuble d'affaires à Los Angeles et réclame une rançon en menaçant de le faire sauter. Son projet échouant à cause de deux officiers du SWAT, Jack Traven et son partenaire Harry Temple, il décide alors de se faire exploser avec le C4 qu'il a placé sur son torse et se faire passer pour mort. Pour se venger, Payne pose une bombe dans un bus, qui risque d'exploser si la vitesse passe en dessous de 50 miles/h (soit 80 km/h) ou si quelqu'un essaie de descendre. Jack Traven réussit à monter dans le bus. Commence alors un véritable casse-tête pour l'officier du SWAT, qui doit trouver par tous les moyens comment désamorcer la bombe accrochée à l'essieu du bus.Entre-temps, Jack connait d'autres problèmes ; un individu armé se sent menacé lorsque Jack annonce aux passagers qu'il est policier, l'individu le menace avec son arme et blesse involontairement le chauffeur du bus. Le chauffeur blessé est remplacé par une passagère du bus, Annie Porter. Harry Temple, le coéquipier de Jack, est mis au courant par le chef des SWAT que le terroriste est revenu. Jack réussit à contacter Harry, qui lui vient en aide par téléphone afin de désamorcer la bombe. Mais la bombe est relié à une montre et il est impossible de faire une dérivation du circuit, car la configuration de l'engin explosif ne le permet pas. Le chef du SWAT et Harry tentent de trouver des solutions pour aider Jack. Le chef du SWAT décide de faire descendre les passagers, mais le terroriste appelle Jack par téléphone et refuse que quelqu'un tente de descendre sinon il fera exploser la bombe. Seul le chauffeur est autorisé à descendre, après négociation avec le terroriste. Une vieille passagère aigrie essaie alors de descendre et une petite bombe explose,la projetant sous les roues du véhicule où elle meurt, écrasée ; cela étant un avertissement de la part du terroriste montrant qu'il ne plaisante pas. Après cette explosion, Jack est confronté à d'autres problèmes, sur l'autoroute où le bus se trouve ; un membre du SWAT annonce qu'une passerelle de 15 mètres est manquante. Jack met tout en œuvre avec ses coéquipiers à l'extérieur du bus pour passer cette passerelle.Le passage réussi, Jack a l'idée d'amener le bus dans un aéroport afin de gagner du temps pour se défaire de ce piège. Jack demande l'autorisation au terroriste pour sortir du bus, qui accepte tout en lui disant qu'il le surveille. Avec l'aide de son chef, Jack parvient à se glisser seul sous le bus qui continue à rouler sur les pistes, pour tenter de désamorcer la bombe. Sa tentative se soldant par un échec, Jack se retrouve à nouveau dans le bus. Pendant ce temps-là, Harry réussit à trouver le nom du terroriste et décide de se rendre chez lui avec une escouade du SWAT pour l'arrêter, mais tombe dans un piège, qui lui coûte la vie. Jack est informé par le terroriste que son ami Harry est mort. Jack découvre que le terroriste les surveille grâce à une caméra cachée derrière le rétroviseur intérieur. Il a alors l'idée de faire rediffuser plusieurs fois la même séquence vidéo pour tromper la surveillance du terroriste et d'évacuer les passagers en les transférant dans un autre bus. Une fois les passagers en sécurité, il ne reste plus que Jack et Annie à bord du bus. Ils bloquent la pédale d'accélérateur pour maintenir l'allure du bus avant de parvenir à en descendre par le plancher. Le bus est ensuite détruit par l'explosion de la bombe. Le terroriste, ne sachant pas que son plan a échoué, pense aller récupérer sa rançon et découvre juste avant qu'il s'est de nouveau fait avoir par Jack.Par conséquent, il change ses plans et, portant un uniforme de police, il va à la rencontre d'Annie qui attend près de l'ambulance qui les a amenés, elle et Jack, après l'histoire du bus, sur le lieu choisi par le terroriste pour le dépôt de la rançon. Jack se rend compte que la rançon a déjà été subtilisée par le terroriste et décide d'aller voir de plus près. Il voit Annie avec une ceinture d'explosifs placée par le terroriste. Howard Payne, furieux, amène Annie dans un métro tout en narguant Jack. Celui-ci parvient quand même à monter dans le métro, sans que Payne ne s'en rende compte. La rançon était piégée, elle explose, ce qui rend Payne furieux. Il découvre que Jack est sur le toit du métro. Payne engage un combat à mains nues avec Jack, et meurt finalement en heurtant de la tête une borne lumineuse. Jack retourne auprès d'Annie, mais ne parvient pas à la libérer des menottes. Jack décide de faire dérailler le métro et se retrouve projeté sur une route en plein Los Angeles. Ayant survécu à l'accident, Jack et Annie finissent par s'embrasser sous les yeux de touristes qui prennent des photos.

Speed is a classic action movie. It basically has 3 set pieces - one featuring a lift, one featuring a bus and the last one featuring a train. The plot is wafer-thin and there's not much in terms of character development. And not all of the action is realistic. But its so fast paced that it doesn't give you any moment to stop and ponder. The action and adventure just keeps on going from the start till the end and leaves you with a feeling of having experienced a roller coaster ride. Dennis Hopper is very entertaining as the over-the-top villain and Keanu Reeves is good as the heroic bomb squad guy. But Sandra Bullock as the bus driver can be irritating at times. Speed is popcorn entertainment at its best and inspite of multiple viewings, I still find it thrilling from start to finish.The blu-ray disc of Speed released in India is the remastered dual layer 50GB Region Free disc. In most of the countries including US and UK, Speed is released in a dated single layer 25GB Region Locked disc. This was a pleasant surprise. The average bit rate is around 30mbps, which is very high. This makes the picture quality very good. Its probably the best Speed will look in High Definition. And the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track is also very good. One the extras front, there's only the 2 audio commentaries and a trailer. Other extras from the 2-disc dvd should have been ported over, but there are not there on any of the blu-ray releases of Speed. Although the 25 GB disc of Speed had a Trivia track, Speed Takedown game, Content search and Personal Scene Selection features which is not ported over to this release. But the commentary tracks are really good, so its not much of a loss.The Indian edition of Speed is the best in the world and there are not many times one can say this. Good job by Excel Home Entertainment.
